The Ford Ranger may be the newest kid on the mid-size pickup block, but that hasn't stopped the automaker from introducing a Black Appearance package to keep interest in the model strong. Usually, automakers will come out with a blacked-out package when sales of a model starts to dip, but Ford's following its own path with the Ranger.

The Black Appearance Package costs $1,995 and adds a bunch of black exterior parts including: a grille, 18-inch aluminum wheels, running boards, a spray-in bed liner, fender vent surround, mirrors, a sill plate, a bash plate, and a lower valance. While it's all about the black touches, the package does include some body-colors bumpers. Consumers can order their Ranger with the Black Appearance Package now, but deliveries won’t begin until early this summer.

Ford is particularly proud of the way the Black Appearance Package looks on trucks with brighter colors, especially Lightning Blue and Hot Pepper Red. More importantly, the new package is another way consumers can customize their Ranger.

When the midsize pickup was launched, it was offered with three packages, two of which were focused on appearance.

The Chrome Appearance Package ($795), depending on trim, brings 18-inch chrome wheels, chrome mirror caps, chrome door and tailgate handles, a chrome exhaust tip, chrome front and rear bumpers, a chrome grille, chrome tow hooks, and body-color wheel-lip molding.

The other appearance package, the Sport Appearance Package, costs $895 and adds 17-inch or 18-inch aluminum, a black grille with magnetic surround and magnetic bars, magnetic front and rear bumpers, magnetic wheel lip moldings, and Sport bodyside decals.

Finally, the FX4 Off-Road Package is priced at $1,295 and includes off-road tuned suspension, 17- or 18-inch tires, an electronic-locking rear differential, exposed front tow hooks, an exposed steel bash plate, an off-road screen in the cluster, a front air dam delete, skid plates, a Terrain Management System, Trail Control, and “FX4 Offroad” bodyside decals.
