Mazda is expanding the number of vehicles that will be available in its range-topping Signature trim. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is the latest offering from the Japanese automaker that gets the luxury trim. And, just like the others, the CX-5 Signature also comes with a turbocharged engine.

The main news for the new CX-5 Signature is what's under the hood. Similar to the Signature trims that are offered for the CX-9 and the Mazda6, the new trim for the crossover comes with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The motor is rated to produce 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you choose to put 93-octane fuel in the tank, you'll get 250 hp. The engine is only available with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission.

To further help the CX-5 in the performance department is Mazda's G-Vectoring Control Plus system. The upgraded system utilizes the vehicle's brakes to add direct yaw moment control, increasing stability. When turning into a corner, G-Vectoring Control Plus applies the outer wheel's brakes to provide extra stability. Mazda has also upgraded the CX-5's suspension and steering.

Since the Signature trim is the most expensive and the most luxurious CX-5 consumers can buy, it comes with more luxury features than any other trim. Dark brown Nappa leather, genuine layered wood trim, 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a black cloth headliner, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with unique stitching are standard on the trim.

On the tech front, going with the CX-5 Signature brings front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, a universal garage door opener, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a reconfigure 7-inch TFT gauge display, and a 7-inch touchscreen.

Pricing for the new CX-5 Signature starts at $37,885, roughly $2,000 more than the Grand Touring Reserve trim. With the turbocharged engine, the CX-5 is one of the more powerful compact SUVs on the market. It offers more power than the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Nissan Rogue when running on 93 octane. The Signature trim, though, is much more expensive than any of the range-topping trims of those variants.
