Blacked out cars aren’t exactly new, but more automakers are getting on the train by offering blacked out packages to give consumers more choices. Honda already offers the Ridgeline in a Black Edition and is now spreading the love to the 2020 Honda Pilot Black Edition, which takes its place at the top of the lineup.

Previously, the Elite was the most expensive Pilot consumers could purchase. But now, that privilege belongs to the Black Edition, which costs $50,715 (including destination). The Black Edition shares a lot of standard equipment with the Elite, but adds a few extra touches to justify its $1,500 upcharge.

In keeping with its name, the Pilot Black Edition is only offered in one exterior paint scheme – Crystal Black Pearl. The special paint job is just one of the black features on the range-topping Pilot. Others include black 20-inch wheels, black trim pieces on the headlight, window, door handles, fog lights, and side trim. Special Black Edition badges are also located on the grill and liftgate.

The interior of the SUV gets its fair share of unique touches, too, but they’re more along the lines of accenting the blacked-out look of the cabin. Red accent stitching is on the front seats and the second-row captain’s chairs, steering wheel, and door panels. The perforated leather front seats have a Black Edition logo, as do the floor mats. Lastly, the dashboard, center console, and doors have red accent lighting.

Power for the entire Pilot lineup comes from a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. The Black Edition comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission and has all-wheel drive as standard.

Feature wise, not much has changed for the 2020 model year. The Touring, Elite, and Black Edition trims, though, come with 4G LTE Wi-Fi capability, which then enables Honda’s expanded services that are available through HondaLink. This includes Amazon Key In-Car Delivery, which Honda recently introduced on a select few vehicles.

The 2020 Pilot goes on sale in dealers at the end of the month with a starting price tag of $32,645 for the base LX trim.
