SUVs and cars have gone all-in on the all-black trend recently, and now it’s the turn of RAM’s 2020 Heavy Duty trucks. Following closely in the footsteps of the 2020 Ram 1500 Limited Black Edition, the 2020 RAM Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition gives consumers seeking a capable, heavy-duty luxury truck a “sophisticated, monochromatic appearance package.” That’s apparently how RAM looks at the latest addition to the lineup.
The Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition is available on both the RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks and acts as an appearance package. By ticking the right box, buyers get 20-inch black wheels (17-inch ones on dual rear-wheel models) and loads of black accents. If you’re looking for a full breakdown of everything that’s black, there’s the grille, door handles, tow hooks, side-view trailer tow mirrors, as well as headlight and taillight bezels. RAM doesn’t provide any information on changes the package brings on the inside, so we assume that things will remain the same.
It’s not a whole lot of difference from the Limited trim, but for those seeking an all-black menacing look, the Limited Black Edition does the job. The most affordable RAM Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition costs $64,440 including destination, which makes it $1,295 more than the regular Limited trim.
This isn’t the first black package RAM has offered on its Heavy Duty trucks. There’s the Night Edition ($2,495) that brings black 20-inch wheels and black exterior trim pieces, though it’s available in a variety of exterior colors and is offered on models as low as the Laramie. RAM also offers a Black Appearance Package on the Limited trim that mirrors the new Limited Black Edition, though it’s more affordable with a price tag of $995.
Neither Ford nor Chevrolet offer a blacked-out package for their respective heavy-duty pickup trucks, making RAM the sole one out of the three to do so. While the new Limited Black Edition doesn’t add much for a relatively high price, it does give consumers something they can’t find with another option in the class. The RAM Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition will arrive in dealers in the third quarter of 2020.
