Lexus has introduced a fully redesigned NX for the 2022 model year. Both the gas-powered version of the NX and the plug-in hybrid model have been fully updated for 2022. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has conducted all of its testing on the new NX and the SUVs earned the organization’s highest award.
In the IIHS’ testing, the 2022 NX and NX Plug-in Hybrid earned a Top Safety Pick+ award. Both SUVs earned a “Good” rating in the organization’s six crash tests, have headlights that earned a rating of “Good,” and come with front crash prevention systems that earn a rating of “Superior.” The NX is available with three different headlights, while the NX Plug-in Hybrid is available with two headlights. All of the NX’s available headlights earned a rating of “Good” without any optional packages, so all of the SUV’s trims met the requirements for the top rating.
The 2022 Lexus NX and NX Plug-in Hybrid join the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Genesis GV70, and Volvo XC60 as a Top Safety Pick+ award winner. The Volvo XC60 Recharge is the only other plug-in hybrid compact SUV to earn the IIHS’ top safety award. The Lincoln Nautilus and Mercedes-Benz GLC earned the organization’s Top Safety Pick award.
