When Toyota came out with the all-new Highlander Hybrid in 2020, the electrified midsize SUV arrived with an exciting design. The old Highlander Hybrid wasn’t the most thrilling vehicle from a design standpoint, but that isn’t an issue with the current model. If, for some reason, you’re looking for a little extra pizzaz from your midsize hybrid SUV, Toyota's new 2022 Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition should fit the bill.
In the Highlander Hybrid lineup, the new Bronze Edition will sit between the XLE and Limited, though Toyota hasn’t confirmed pricing for the new model. Based on that information, we expect the Bronze Edition to cost between $42,710 (with destination) and $46,665. For the extra money, the Bronze Edition brings a flashier exterior and some extra features. While we don’t have official pricing, the Bronze Edition looks like it will be a decent value option, as it's more than just an aesthetic package.
The new Bronze Edition can be finished in either Wind Chill Pearl that’s a new color for the 2022 model year or Cement, which is exclusive to the special edition. Other exterior touches include bronze accents and 18-inch bronze wheels. As far as standard exterior features go, the Bronze Edition will come with a hands-free power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, puddle lamps with the Highlander logo, and LED-strip daytime running lights.
Toyota has given the Bronze Edition a few special touches on the inside, too. Bronze interior stitching, illuminated bronze door sills, SofTex-trimmed seats, as well as unique floor and cargo mats with a special bronze logo will be standard. Standard features over lower trims include a digital rearview mirror, a 1500-watt power outlet, ambient lighting, and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory.
Like the rest of the Highlander Hybrid lineup, the Bronze Edition will come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for a combined output of 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive will be standard with the special edition, while all-wheel drive will be available. Without any major changes, the Bronze Edition should be able to get up to 36 mpg combined for models with FWD and 35 mpg combined for AWD models.
The Bronze Edition is the first special edition we’ve seen for the Highlander since Toyota came out with the fully redesigned SUV. Based on Toyota’s love affair with special editions, we don’t think the Bronze Edition will be the last one we see for the Highlander. Recent special edition models from Toyota include the Nightshade, Corolla Special Edition, Trail Special Editions, 4Runner Venture Special Edition, and Sienna Woodland Edition.
