2025 Kia Carnival

The minivan segment isn’t dead yet. That much is apparent from the facelifted 2025 Kia Carnival that was just introduced. Kia originally revealed the refreshed 2025 Carnival in October, but the South Korean automaker finally unveiled the facelifted minivan for the U.S. market. In addition to featuring an updated design and some new tech features, the 2025 Carnival is also gaining a new hybrid version.

The new 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a 72-horsepower electric motor. Combined output is rated at 242 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is included with the powertrain.

Compared to the 3.5-liter V6 engine, which will continue to be available for the 2025 Carnival, the new Carnival Hybrid is down on power. The V6 is rated at 287 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is a decrease of 3 hp and 2 lb-ft of torque compared to 2024. Still, the V6 makes 45 more horsepower than the hybrid engine, but is down 11 pound-feet of torque.

Kia hasn’t released estimated fuel economy figures for the 2025 Carnival Hybrid yet, but we expect it bring far better fuel economy figures than the V6-powered Carnival. With the V6 engine, the Carnival is rated at up to 22 mpg combined. The Kia Sorento Hybrid, which has the same powertrain as the new Carnival Hybrid is rated at up to 37 mpg combined. If the Carnival Hybrid's fuel economy gets close to the Sorento Hybrid, then it will be a dramatic improvement over the V6.

The new Carnival Hybrid will compete against the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The Sienna is only available with a hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with two electric motors. Output is rated at 245 hp and the Sienna can get up to 36 mpg combined.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid that comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s paired with two electric motors and a 16-kWh battery pack. The Pacifica Hybrid has 260 hp and can get up to 30 mpg when running on gas.

Beyond its hybrid powertrain, the 2025 Carnival Hybrid gets unique features over the V6-powered model. The hybrid comes with Kia’s E-Handling system that’s supposed to improve handling by decelerating or accelerating the electric motor. The electrified minivan also comes with a feature called E-Ride that utilizes special shocks along with the E-Handling system to reduce the impact of bumps on rough roads.

The 2025 Kia Carnival HEV will be available in four trims: LXS, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the electrified minivan will go on sale this summer.
