General Motors is busy trying to launch 30 new electric vehicles globally by 2025. While we’ve seen upcoming electric cars from GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac, things have been quiet on the Buick front. In a Twitter thread promoting GM’s Super Bowl ad with Dr. Evil pledging to save the world with EVs, Buick dropped a look at its first electric car that will come out this summer.

The teaser image is a closeup of the electric car’s sweeping headlight with “Buick” in the top right corner of the light. Beyond that, the picture’s too dark to really notice anything else. The bottom of the picture has “Concept vehicle shown,” which means that headlight design could change when the concept arrives later this year.

While there’s not a lot to go off of with the photo, it’s a good sign for Buick fans, which haven’t had a lot to cheer about recently. It’s also proof that Buick will hang around during GM’s electrification process.

Before the end of 2021, General Motors filed a trademark for the Buick Electra name. The last time we saw a Buick with the Electra nameplate was in 1990. Back then, the name was for a full-size luxury sedan. More recently, we’ve seen Buick use the Electra name for an electric SUV concept that debuted at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show. The concept had similarly styled headlights, so it’s possible that Buick could be working on coming out with a more polished version of the Electra concept for the U.S. market.

But at the beginning of this year, GM filed another trademark for the Velite name for use in America. It’s possible that the upcoming concept could come out as an entirely new vehicle that we haven’t seen yet. Buick offers an entire lineup of Velite electrified vehicles in China, so it could be the automaker’s way of expanding the lineup to a new area.

There’s a lot we don’t know about Buick’s first all-electric model, but we’ll get some more information on the concept soon.
