2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E

In a confusing twist of fate, Ford is reportedly looking into introducing a coupe version of the Mustang Mach-E SUV. That’s the latest news from AutoForecast Solutions, which reports that Ford is getting ready to introduce the next-gen Mach-E in 2026 and is preparing a Mach-E coupe to add to the lineup.

The whole thing is a little confusing because the Mach-E is an all-electric SUV version of the Mustang, which is a coupe. Ford is rumored to be working on an all-electric Mustang, so wouldn’t that be a coupe version of a possible Mach-E coupe? Only Ford knows the answer to that, because all we know is that a Mach-E coupe could be introduced in 2026.

With the Mach-E coming out for the 2021 model year, Ford is looking to introduce a new generation of the electric vehicle in 2026 that will ride on a new platform that the automaker will use for its future EVs. With the brand set to come out with a new generation of the Mach-E and move to using a new platform, it thinks it’s also the best time to expand the Mach-E lineup.

2024 Ford Mustang

The report has a future roadmap for existing and upcoming Ford models up until the early 2030s. The roadmap shows the Mach-E coupe going into production on July 1, 2026, and staying in production until June 2031. The SUV version of the Mach-E will arrive on the same day but stay in production until June 2033. So far, that’s all we know about the upcoming Mach-E coupe.

This report brings more questions than answers, the main one being what is a Mach-E coupe? There’s a good chance that Ford will introduce an all-electric Mustang and classify it under the Mach-E line instead of just calling it a Mustang. Ford just introduced a new generation of the Mustang with the 2024 model year and it’s currently not available with an electrified powertrain. The American automaker could be trying to keep the Mustang name as pure as possible to the V8-powered sports cars that we’ve come to love by introducing an electrified model under the all-electric Mach-E family that it recently created.
