Tesla has finally gotten the ball rolling at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, and is hard at work on increasing production for the Model Y. Wait times for the Model Y, though, are still incredibly long, as the base Long Range trim with the standard 19-inch wheels has an estimated delivery date between February and March 2023. There’s some good news for buyers that live near Austin, as reports have surfaced of Tesla offering reservation holders who live near the new factory an accelerated delivery option for its electric crossover.
According to Inside EVs, some reservation holders that live in Texas have received an email from Tesla. The email, which is making the rounds across social media, allows reservation holders to change their current reservations to the automaker’s new Model Y Standard Range with all-wheel drive. The new trim level comes with Tesla’s 4680 battery cells and a new structural battery pack that it builds in-house.
“Select Model Y All-Wheel Drive and experience one of the first vehicles built at Gigafactory Texas – and currently only available in the area. Go anywhere with up to 279 miles on a single charge and accelerate from 0-60 mph in as little as 5.0 seconds,” reads the email.
Tesla also has a few of the new Model Y Standard Range All-Wheel Drive models available via its current inventory page. From the images we’ve seen on Twitter, some of the available electric cars have between three and 25 miles on the odometer. Prices range from $60,990 up to $61,990. They’re also available for “Accelerated Delivery,” though there’s no information on dates for delivery for these vehicles. Interestingly, one of the vehicles has a range of 269 miles, while the others are rated at 279 miles.
The new Model Y Standard Range All-Wheel Drive models are a little confusing. The base Long Range trim with all-wheel drive costs $64,190 with destination and $62,990 without destination and has a range of 330 miles. The new vehicles cost roughly $62,000 – we don’t know if the prices include destination or not – and have approximately 51 miles less of range. While consumers will save some money by going with the new Model Y Standard Range All-Wheel Drive model, they’re losing a little bit of range. We suspect the real factor that will go into choosing the new model will be the delivery time.
With current reservation holders getting the ability to order Tesla’s new Model Y trim, we expect the automaker to update its website soon to allow consumers across the country to order the new model.
