Jeep is lowering its base price for the Wrangler plug-in hybrid by $600 for 2023. Based on the latest order guide data, a new entry-level trim called the 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe will offer a price cut versus the current base model. However, there may be some important factors worth considering for Wrangler PHEV buyers.
The 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe has an MSRP of $55,590 after a $1,595 destination charge. That's a $600 price cut compared to the cheapest 2022 Wrangler 4xe, the Sahara Edition, which currently has a sticker price of $56,190. This may be surprising for Wrangler 4xe buyers given the price hikes since the model's launch.
For example, the 2021 Wrangler 4xe saw multiple mid-year price increases amounting to over $3,000. The 2022 Wrangler 4xe then saw a roughly $1,000 price hike when it went on sale. Still, while a 2023 Wrangler 4xe price cut may be good news, the fact is that we still don't have the full picture on what to expect for 2023.
As before, the Wrangler Sahara 4xe and Rubicon 4xe will continue to be sold, but pricing has not yet been announced. As such, it remains unclear whether or not Jeep plans to increase prices yet again on the higher-end trims. Still, like other Chrysler EVs, the Wrangler 4xe does have a big advantage over other plug-ins.
Since the Wrangler 4xe is assembled in Ohio, the SUV remains eligible for a $7,500 tax credit. As a result, the effective cost of a 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe could dip to $48,090. State plug-in rebates could help bring that price down even further. It's also worth noting that Chrysler Capital is passing along the tax credit on leases.
For reference, Ford keeps the tax credit for itself on Mach-E leases, instead opting to promote a lease-like buying option called Ford Options Plan. Given the fact that plug-ins from competitors like Toyota and Volkswagen no longer qualify after the Inflation Reduction Act, this could make the Wrangler a pretty good deal.
The Willys 4xe comes with the same 375-hp plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain as other 4xe trims and an electric range of 21 miles. Other noteworthy features include 10.1 inches of ground clearance, skid plates, 17-inch black-painted off-road wheels, a rear limited-slip differential, "Willys" badging, and more.
