Shoppers looking to get a 2024 Mustang may be surprised to see that Ford is now charging extra for some paint colors. According to a bulletin that Ford sent to dealers this week, the automaker has increased the price of certain paint colors on the 2024 Mustang. This change went into effect on April 8th.

As the bulletin for the 2024 Ford Mustang lays out, Race Red, Atlas Blue, Grabber Blue, Vapor Blue, and Blue Ember are an additional $295, while Dark Matter Gray costs an extra $495. Previously, these paint colors didn’t cost extra, but they do now.

Shoppers who are interested in playing around with Ford’s configurator for the 2024 Mustang will find that it has been updated to reveal the higher prices needed to get a specific paint color with the pony car. The most expensive color remains Yellow Splash, which adds an extra $995.

It is surprising to see Ford introduce price hikes for certain paint colors on the 2024 Mustang when it previously offered them as a no-cost option. Unsurprisingly, the colors penalize shoppers who want their Mustang to be finished in a color that’s not white, black, or gray.

It’s a trend we’ve seen across the entire automotive industry, as most automakers now offer white and black as no-cost color options and charge extra for all other shades. It may also explain why most vehicles on the road now are white, black, or gray.

Shoppers who are interested in spending money to get their Mustang painted in one of the brighter shades will find that Shadow Black, Oxford White, Iconic Silver, and Carbonized Gray are included with the Mustang’s price tag.

With Ford increasing pricing for paint colors on the 2024 Mustang, we expect the trend to expand to other models. Depending on how shoppers respond to Ford’s price increases for paint colors, the changes could be here to stay.
