2025 Ford Explorer

The 2025 Ford Explorer gets a much-needed mid-cycle refresh that increased the midsize SUV’s by approximately $3,000. While Ford announced pricing for the 2025 Explorer earlier this February, the automaker has already increased pricing for the Explorer ST, the sportiest version of the SUV.

According to a bulletin that Ford sent to dealers recently, pricing for the 2025 Explorer ST went up as of May 9. When Ford originally announced pricing for the 2025 Explorer ST, the SUV had a starting price tag of $55,205 (prices don’t include destination) for models with rear-wheel drive. Getting the SUV with all-wheel drive raised its starting price tag to $57,205.

Now, pricing for the 2025 Explorer ST has gone up by $300 for RWD models and $1,995 for AWD models. That means the Explorer ST will start at $55,505 with RWD and go up to $59,200 with AWD before any options.

The price increase creates an even larger gap between the RWD Explorer ST and the AWD model. When pricing for the 2025 Explorer ST was originally announced, we were surprised to see the AWD model cost an extra $2,000. That’s a fairly steep increase for getting two more driven wheels. With the price increase, shoppers will have to pay an extra $3,695 if they want to get their 2025 Explorer ST with AWD.

2025 Ford Explorer Dashboard

We don’t know why Ford has increased pricing for the 2025 Explorer ST. Based on the bulletin that the automaker sent to its dealers, the SUV isn’t getting extra standard features. And we can’t find a reason for why the AWD version of the Explorer ST has gone up by so much.

With a starting price tag of $41,220, the 2025 Explorer is pricier than most of its rivals in the midsize segment. While other automakers are focusing on rugged trims, Ford is one of the few brands to offer its midsize SUV in a performance-oriented model. With 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, the Explorer ST is also one of the more powerful midsize SUVs in the class.

The Explorer ST’s powerful V6 engine, athletic handling, and peppy acceleration make it one of the more unique SUVs available in the midsize class. The SUV doesn’t have any direct competitors, which gives Ford extra leeway to price it accordingly.
