If you had your mind set on ordering a new Ford F-150 Lightning, you may be facing a longer wait than anticipated. Ford has paused production of their electric pickup due to a battery issue. Here's everything we know about the stoppage so far.
According to Motor1, F-150 Lightning production was halted on Tuesday after a battery problem arose. A Ford spokesperson commented that Lightning is currently under "stop build" and "stop ship" orders. She could not confirm when Lightning production will resume, but that it will be ceased until at least the end of next week.
She also added that Ford is "not aware of any incidents in the field and [they] do not believe F-150 Lightnings already in customers' hands are affected by this issue." Thankfully, there is no stop-sale order in place for Lightnings already on dealer lots, and current Lightning owners can breathe a sigh of relief as well.
Only one truck was found to have the defect during its pre-delivery inspection and Ford believes to have identified the root cause, but the Lightning is already a high-interest vehicle and this will surely put Ford behind in fulfilling orders.
Depending on the severity of the production shutdown, we may see Ford offer incentives to those affected, or encourage orders of other vehicles. They've offered up to $2,500 to incentivize orders of non-Bronco vehicles to keep up with demand.
