The 2022 Kia Stinger continues to be one of the few sedans that focuses on driver enjoyment and the new model year brings quite a few changes. In addition to a new turbo-four engine, a more powerful twin-turbo V6, and a slightly updated design, the 2022 Stinger also receives a new Scorpion Special Edition model. Kia hinted at the Scorpion Special Edition a few months ago when it first unveiled the 2022 Stinger, but we’re getting the lowdown on the model now.

The Scorpion Special Edition will be based on the GT2 and will be offered with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Being based on the GT2 trim means the Scorpion Special Edition will come with the twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 that makes up to 368 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

As far as special touches go, the Scorpion Special Edition will be available in three colors: Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black, and Ceramic Silver. The exterior also benefits from black trim pieces, black side mirror caps, and dark exhaust tips. A body-colored rear spoiler and unique 19-inch black wheels are also on the outside. On the inside, changes include carbon fiber-pattern trim and available black or red Nappa leather upholstery.

These changes make the new Scorpion Special Edition a purely aesthetic package for the Stinger GT2. So, with a starting price tag of $53,630 (including destination), the special edition trim isn’t a good value option. The GT2 costs $52,335, which is $1,295 less than the Scorpion Special Edition. While the Scorpion Special Edition isn’t good value, it’s a somewhat affordable way to get into a limited car. Kia plans to sell 250 units of the model every month and the special edition is built exclusively for the U.S. market. The South Korean automaker didn’t say how long it would sell the Scorpion Special Edition for.

Up against its rivals, the Stinger continues to undercut similarly equipped German rivals. Even the Scorpion Special Edition, which is now the most expensive Stinger in the lineup, seems like a good value option compared to the competition.

This isn’t the first special edition Stinger Kia has come out with. The Atlantica, Indigo Edition, and GTS were other special edition Stingers Kia sold. These others special editions were aesthetic packages that mostly changed the way the Stinger looked. Other Kia models that have received a special edition model include the Telluride, Optima, Seltos, Soul, and Sportage, though this is the first time we’ve seen the Scorpion Special Edition name.
