Quite a few automakers have bolstered their used car and certified pre-owned (CPO) programs as customers move to purchase used vehicles because of high new car prices and the lack of available inventory. Nissan recently announced that it would be expanding its CPO program to include vehicles that are up to 10 years old and have up to 100,000 miles through a new Certified Select program, while used vehicles from other automakers are also covered for the first time.
Previously, Nissan’s CPO program covered Nissans that were up to six years old. Now, the Certified Select program covers vehicles that are four years older and select vehicles from other automakers. Every vehicle available through the Certified Select program receives an 84-point inspection and is backed by a six-month, 6,000-mile limited warranty. Customers also get one complimentary maintenance visit within the first year of ownership and 24-hour roadside assistance.
Nissan’s CPO vehicles continue to be capped at six years and 80,000 miles. These models will continue to be backed by a seven-year, 100,000-mile limited warranty and undergo a 167-point inspection. Customers that purchase a CPO vehicle get one year of pre-paid maintenance along with 24-hour roadside assistance.
More and more customers are looking for ways to purchase a vehicle without visiting a dealership. Now, consumers can browse through Nissan CPO and Certified Select vehicles available at participating dealerships online through the Nissan At Home tool. Consumers can also choose to complete the purchase virtually without ever stepping foot in a dealer. Participating dealers will be able to deliver vehicles to buyers at their homes.
“As pre-owned vehicle sales continue to outpace those of new vehicles in the marketplace, Certified Select allows our trusted dealerships to offer more high-quality options for shoppers,” said Dan Mohnke, vice president, eCommerce, Nissan U.S. “And we’ve further committed to customer satisfaction by offering a seamless online purchase option and a complimentary maintenance visit.”
Nissan isn’t the only dealership that has strengthened its CPO program recently. Before the end of 2020, Honda began offering non-certified used vehicles on its own website for customers to purchase. Ford added a lower-cost certified pre-owned program in the fall of 2020 and started to offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on its CPO vehicles starting at the beginning of this year.
