Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Debuts in China, Bound for US?

At this year's Beijing Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a new A-Class sedan specific to the Chinese market. The automaker will reveal another A-Class sedan later that will reach US showrooms this fall as a 2019 model.

The new A-Class will be the automaker's entry-level offering with a starting price of about $30,000 in the US. For that price, customers get an updated version of the Modular Front-drive Architecture platform, which underpins the current generation of Mercedes compact cars.

The tweaked platform means the new A-Class can feature an advanced user interface dubbed MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), which is similar to the setup in the E- and S-Class.

While Mercedes will offer a range of engines in A-Class models around the globe, here in the US, the A-Class should receive a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine producing 224 hp as standard. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will send power to the front wheels. The high-performance AMG model, which should deliver more than 400 hp, will come with all-wheel drive. This would, for the most part, mirror the current lineup for the CLA-Class.

We expect the US-market A-Class sedan to make its US debut later this year.
