The 2016 LA Auto Show will play host to some notable new car debuts later this week. Although the event will feature a range of exciting vehicles with the latest technology, the focus will most likely be a slew of new crossover vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
Most debuts will happen at press conferences between November 14-17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Doors will be open to the public from November 18-27.
Here's a roundup of some of the most significant debuts expected at this year's show.
All-New Volkswagen Atlas
The Atlas is a completely new three-row crossover due to arrive next year as a 2018 model. Two powertrains will be offered initially— a 2.0-liter turbo making 238 hp and a 3.6-liter V6 making 280 hp. It will be the largest VW ever built in America and offer advanced technology like a digital cockpit display and the full range of driver assistance features. Learn More »
Redesigned Honda CR-V
The king of the crossover segment gets a complete redesign when it goes on sale this winter as a 2017 model. Influenced by the popular Civic, the CR-V will gain a 1.5-liter turbo making 190 hp, as well as Honda Sensing as standard equipment on EX and higher versions. Despite a full revamp inside and out, oddly the most talked-about feature so far is the addition of a volume knob. Learn More »
Updated Mazda CX-5
The 2017 CX-5, long considered a refreshingly sporty alternative in a crowded segment, is due for a big update. Teaser imagery suggests a sleek design influenced by the larger CX-9 crossover. Will the new CX-5 retain its sporty appeal with its latest update? Will Mazda add an additional engine option, like the 2.5-liter turbo from the CX-9? We'll find out at the official premier on November 16. Learn More »
Redesigned Jeep Compass
The redesigned 2018 Compass is due for its North American debut in LA before going on sale in the first quarter of 2017. Based on its Brazilian-market equivalent (pictured), expect a design heavily influenced by the Grand Cherokee. The update may boost the Compass' appeal among shoppers not in love with the Cherokee's polarizing looks, especially given that the Patriot has been discontinued.
New Ford EcoSport
It's not often that a rapper leaks a major debut, but that's apparently what happened when DJ Khaled Snapchatted the debut of the EcoSport. Previously offered only overseas, the vehicle will compete with the Chevy Trax, Honda HR-V and more. Expect full details soon. Learn More »
Next-Gen Honda Civic Si
Honda is expected to reveal a concept version of its next-generation Civic Si. Mum's the word on what kind of engine will be under the hood of the production model, but it could be a less powerful version of the 2.0-liter turbo expected in the upcoming Civic Type R pictured above. Stay tuned for full details.
New Subaru Three-Row Crossover
Although the Forester and Outback have earned a place in the hearts of Subaru owners, a larger alternative appears set to debut very soon. According to Automotive News, the Japanese automaker may unveil a new three-row crossover based on the modular platform of the upcoming 2017 Impreza.
New Toyota C-HR Crossover
