Special-edition models that commemorate the beginning of a new model are things that are usually reserved for upscale automakers. While we wouldn't call the 2019 Nissan Altima, which debuted at this year's New York Auto Show, luxurious, the automaker announced that it would be opening up reservations for a limited launch edition of the new sedan. It's aptly called the Edition ONE.
Usually, first-edition vehicles have bespoke touches that won't be offered on other vehicles and some more services. The 2019 Nissan Altima Edition ONE has all of these, as well as an air of exclusivity, as only 3,900 units of the limited-edition sedan will be made.
The Altima Edition ONE is built upon the range-topping Platinum VC-Turbo trim, so it comes with all of the model's goodies, including the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a variable compression ratio. The engine is rated to make 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
On top of the Platinum trim's lengthy list of features, the limited-edition sedan comes with 19-inch dark-gray wheels, ground lighting, a rear spoiler, bespoke Edition ONE badging, and illuminated kick plates. Truthfully, that doesn't sound like enough to warrant a higher price tag than that of the Platinum trim's, which hasn't been announced yet.
Luckily, these aren't the only unique features the Altima Edition ONE comes with. Buyers that opt for the special edition get three years of Nissan Concierge services for free. The service allows consumers to have someone else make dinner reservations or purchase tickets to an event from the sedan's touchscreen. They can also use a smartphone app.
Nissan is opening reservations for the Altima Edition ONE on June 15. Buyers that manage to snag one of the limited-edition models also have their choice of one of three gifts. There's a Series 3 Apple Watch, an Amazon Echo Show with an Amazon Prime membership, as well as a Bose Soundlink Revolve Plus that also comes with an Amazon Echo Dot and an Amazon Prime membership. The gifts will be redeemable a week after purchasing the car.
Pricing for the 2019 Altima hasn't been announced yet, but that should change soon, as the reservation program for the Altima Edition ONE kicks off on June 15. The sedan arrives in dealerships later this fall.
