Volkswagen unveiled the Arteon, the flagship replacement for the CC, for the European market in 2017. We were really looking forward to seeing the Arteon go on sale in the US this summer, as its four-door fastback design looked daring and athletic. Unfortunately, the VW Arteon launch has been pushed back, so we, along with every American consumer, will have to wait a little longer.

In a report, Automotive News claims that Volkswagen is delaying the US launch of the Arteon to “early 2019” because of delays in the certification process that arose from meeting new worldwide emissions testing, a Volkswagen spokesman told the outlet. The worldwide emissions testing that the VW spokesman is referring to is the Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure that went into effect on Sept. 1.

The VW Arteon was originallly scheduled to launch in the third quarter of this year. While you'll have to wait several months to get your hands on an Arteon, the vehicle is worth the wait. In addition to its striking design, the vehicle will sit on the brand's MQB platform, which should make it fun to drive, have a spacious cabin and cargo area, and feature all of the latest tech.

When the Arteon does go on sale, it'll compete against the Audi A5 Sportback, Kia Stinger, BMW 3-Series, and the Buick Regal Sportback.
