What's New

The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid returns largely unchanged. Although the gas-powered Pacifica (covered separately) loses its two cheapest trims to the returning Chrysler Voyager model, those changes won’t affect the hybrid.

Instead, the only changes are minor tweaks to feature availability, the biggest of which is a new Red S Appearance Package on the top Limited trim. All Hybrid models now wear a honeycomb grille pattern.

Choosing Your Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

The Pacifica Hybrid comes in three trims: Touring, Touring L, and Limited. Prices start at $41,490 for the Touring and rise to $47,240 for the Limited. These prices include destination fees but don’t include federal tax credits.

Until the end of the 2019 calendar year, the top two trims are available in 35th Anniversary form.

Engine Choices

Unique among minivans, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid offers plug-in efficiency. The heart of the system is a version of the Pacifica’s usual 3.6-liter V6, this time running on the Atkinson cycle. Joining it are two electric motors of 63 and 85 kW, adding up to a total output of 260 horsepower.

The power runs through an electrically variable transmission to the front wheels. The star of the show is, of course, the fuel economy. It achieves an EPA-estimated 30 miles per gallon combined, 82 miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe), and an all-electric range of 32 miles, all of which is excellent for a family-hauler.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

Carrying capacity – for people or anything else – is the Pacifica’s specialty. This starts with seating for up to eight passengers, though the middle row can be swapped out for captain’s chairs to reduce capacity to seven.

With all three rows in place, the Pacifica can still take 32.3 cubic feet of cargo. With the third row down, this number jumps to 87.5 cubic feet, and it expands to an astonishing 140.5 cubic feet with both rows folded. That’s good even by minivan standards.

Safety Features

The Pacifica Hybrid gets a few active safety features standard, including blind-spot monitoring and park assist. The full roster of advanced safety features is only available on the range-topping Limited, which is a frustrating limitation considering many competitors include some of these features standard.

On the Limited, the $995 Advanced SafetyTec Group package equips the vehicle with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and a surround-view camera system, among other features. These features are available on all trims of the gas-powered Pacifica, and we’re perplexed as to why the same isn’t true of the hybrid.

Infotainment runs through an 8.4-inch touchscreen, with plenty of USB ports plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Goodies like rear-seat touchscreens, a 4G LTE hotspot, and a surround-sound audio system are available as options.

Touring - From $41,490

The Pacifica Hybrid Touring has cloth seats, but it gets fancy touches like a 7-inch digital driver display, power sliding doors, and Chrysler’s nifty Stow’n’Go third-row seating. Passengers get to enjoy three-zone automatic climate control, while 17-inch wheels are standard.

Remote start is available, but it’s bundled in the Cold Weather Group ($495) along with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The only other package of note is a popular S Appearance Package ($795), which swaps in 18-inch rims and blacks out much of the exterior trim. Navigation is available on its own for $695.

Touring L - From $43,790

The Touring L trim comes with leather upholstery and all the features of the Cold Weather Group standard. While it’s available, the 35th Anniversary edition adds $1,490 to the price and adds navigation, an all-black interior, and a 13-speaker Alpine audio system

That audio system is available on the regular Touring L through the Premium Audio Group ($695), which also includes an active noise-control system, an eight-way power passenger seat, and additional USB ports in the second and third rows.

Limited - From $47,240

The Limited trim is the top of the Pacifica Hybrid line, with luxury features to match. Seats are trimmed in Nappa leather, the doors and liftgate are hands free, and the driver’s seat and mirrors have memory settings. Chrysler’s UConnect Theater rear seat entertainment system comes standard, as does navigation and a 20-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The 35th Anniversary edition costs $795 here. The other notable package here is the aforementioned Advanced SafetyTec Group.

CarsDirect Tip

The optional safety features make the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited appealing, but the Touring is already a good value. The Pacifica’s stylish exterior and practical interior combined with a hybrid’s efficiency make a strong package.
