What's New

Following in the footsteps of other brands that have utility vehicles with a coupe-like design, the 2020 Porsche Cayenne joins the trend by welcoming the all-new Cayenne Coupe to the family.

As its name implies, the Cayenne Coupe has a heavily raked rear end that’s meant to, you guessed it, evoke the same lines as a two-door sports car. In addition to using the design to separate itself from the regular Cayenne, the Coupe has more standard sporty features.

Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system, a Sport Chrono Package, and eight-way power front seats are standard. The Cayenne Coupe also offers seating for two in front and two in back, which drops capacity to four instead of five.

Choosing Your Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne is available in five trims: Cayenne, E-Hybrid, S, Turbo, and Turbo S E-Hybrid. Pricing starts at $68,150 including destination for the Cayenne and skyrockets to $163,250 for the Turbo S E-Hybrid.

The Cayenne Coupe is also offered in those five trims, but prices are $2,500 to $8,500 higher, depending on the model.

Engine Choices

Each Cayenne trim gets its own powertrain for a total of five choices:

Engine TypeTrim LevelHorsepowerTorqueFuel Economy (Combined)
3.0L Turbo V6Cayenne335 hp332 lb-ft20 mpg
3.0L Turbo V6 Plug-In HybridE-Hybrid455 hp516 lb-ftNot Yet Rated
2.9L Twin-Turbo V6S434 hp406 lb-ft20 mpg
4.0L Twin-Turbo V8Turbo541 hp468 lb-ft17 mpg
4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 Plug-In HybridTurbo S E-Hybrid670 hp670 lb-ftNot Yet Rated

All-wheel drive is standard on all models, as is an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The plug-in hybrid powertrains are the most attractive, as they bring a lot more performance while boosting fuel economy. They can also travel on electricity alone and have quicker 0-60 mph times than their gas-only counterparts.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The Porsche Cayenne is a spacious mid-size crossover that can seat up to five, while Cayenne Coupes have seating for four.

Cargo space measures in at 27.1 cubic feet behind the rear seat and expands to 60.3 with it folded. Cargo space shrinks to 22.7 and 56.8 cubic feet, respectively, in plug-in hybrid models.

With the sloping rear roofline, the Cayenne Coupe isn’t as spacious. It has 22 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 54.3 total cubic feet. These figures drop to 17.6 and 50.8, respectively, in plug-in hybrid Cayenne Coupes.

Safety Features

Standard safety features on the Cayenne include front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning.

The available Assistance Package ($6,240) adds adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, a head-up display, a surround-view camera system, and night vision assist.

The Porsche Cayenne comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay, navigation, four USB ports, a 10-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Two 7-inch displays in the instrument cluster are also standard. Android Auto is missing.

Cayenne - From $68,150

The base Cayenne comes with 19-inch wheels, LED exterior lighting, two-zone climate control, partial leather upholstery, heated exterior mirrors, and eight-way power front seats. The base Cayenne Coupe comes standard with 20-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, sport seats, and more.

Porsche offers a dizzying number of packages and standalone options that can raise prices in a hurry. Notable features include the panoramic roof ($1,850) on the sedan, 14-way power front seats with memory ($1,680), and the Premium Package ($6,470), which bundles the panoramic roof, heated front seats, lane change assist, and a Bose audio system.

E-Hybrid - From $82,450

The E-Hybrid builds on the base Cayenne and adds the V6-based plug-in hybrid powertrain, adaptive suspension, and larger brakes, among other things.

S - From $85,650

On top of the base, the Cayenne S adds the 434-hp 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. Other standard equipment includes larger brakes.

Turbo - From $127,850

Power for the Cayenne Turbo comes from the 541-hp twin-turbo V8. The trim also comes with 21-inch wheels, high-performance brakes, adaptive headlights, 18-way power front seats, leather upholstery, auto-dimming mirrors, and a heated steering wheel.

Turbo S E-Hybrid - From $163,250

The Turbo S E-Hybrid merges the features from the S E-Hybrid and the Turbo trims while featuring the 670-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain.

CarsDirect Tip

Unless you’re really after looks, ditch the new 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe and go with the regular Cayenne. The Cayenne is already one of the more expensive models in the segment, so sticking with the base trim is strongly recommended. You can also go as crazy as you want with the list of available features, since Porsche makes all of its optional packages and features available on the base trim.
