The 2023 Toyota bZ4X is in stock
The bZ4X is a new EV that Toyota jointly developed with Subaru. The Toyota bZ4X will initially be sold in California and other zero-emissions states, with national availability expected later this year. Due to new law changes, the bZ4X is no longer eligible for the federal EV tax credit, but it still qualifies for some credits in select states. The bZ4X gets a new promotional lease offer this month, but its other offers remain the same.
Current Toyota offers end on July 5, 2023, and can vary by region. Examples listed here are based on Southern California unless noted otherwise. We will update this page monthly, so check for the latest deals.

What's New
As an entirely new EV, the 2023 Toyota bZ4X represents the first in a series of battery-electric Toyotas which will bear the bZ brand. This zero-emission SUV offers a choice of FWD or AWD drivetrains, with prices rising to just under $50,000.
Choosing Your Toyota bZ4X
The two-trim bZ4X range is familiar from other Toyota line-ups, with front and all-wheel-drive versions of both XLE and Limited trims.
The cheapest way into bZ4X ownership is an FWD XLE, costing $43,215 including destination. The flagship AWD Limited comes in at $49,995, with AWD XLE costing $45,295 and FWD Limited retailing at $47,915. It’s worth noting that available tax credits on EVs are likely to be phased out in the near future.
Engine Choices
Powered by a lithium-ion battery pack, the bZ4X produces 201 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque in FWD mode, with AWD models increasing their power output to 214 hp. Fuel economy stands at an EPA-estimated 131 MPGe city, 107 highway, and 119 combined in XLE FWD models, which drops to a less impressive 112/92/102 MPGe in AWD Limited models. Other trims return their own figures, depending on their configuration and specifications.
The bZ4X has an estimated range of up to 252 miles and can fully recharge in 10 hours.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy MPGe (City/Highway/Combined) |
FWD | 201 hp | 196 lb-ft | 131/107/119 (XLE) 125/103/114 (Limited) |
AWD | 214 hp | 196 lb-ft | 114/94/104 (XLE) 112/92/102 (Limited) |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity for the five-seater bZ4X stands at 27.7 cu ft with the rear seats in place, dropping to 25.8 cu ft in models with the optional JBL speaker kit installed.
Safety Features
Safety is extremely impressive across the bZ4X range. AWD models receive downhill assist control, and Limited buyers get a bird’s eye camera with a 360-degree overhead view. Otherwise, an extensive roster of safety equipment is fitted to every model, including the Toyota Safety Sense suite. These aids include pedestrian detection, lane tracing assistance and departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beams. The cabin is packed with eight airbags, blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alerts come as standard, and the front/rear parking assist incorporates automatic braking.
Connectivity
EVs are synonymous with digital display screens, and the bZ4X has a 12.3-inch interface with full smartphone compatibility, satellite radio, cloud navigation, and vehicle tracking for roadside assistance and theft location purposes. A subscription is required for this after the first year of ownership. Qi-compatible device charging is a welcome standard addition, with five USB ports including A and C connectors. However, you’ll have to upgrade Limited models to receive a nine-speaker JBL system in lieu of the rather weedy six-speaker stereo that comes as standard.
2023 Toyota bZ4X XLE – MSRP from $43,215
XLE models are equipped with LED daytime running lights and taillights, rear privacy glass and heated folding power outside mirrors with turn signals, puddle lights, and blind-spot warning indicators. Inside, the dual-zone climate cools a cabin with power locks and windows, a customizable 7.0-inch information display, a leather steering wheel, and a power sunshade hiding the panoramic fixed glass roof. Buyers in colder states will appreciate the de-icer function in the rain-sensing windshield wipers, too.
The only option on XLE models is a $500 Weather package, which adds heating elements to the steering wheel and front seats.
2023 Toyota bZ4X Limited – MSRP from $47,915
It’s possible to spot Limited models with their gray-accented 20-inch wheels, chrome detailed and multi-LED headlights, while the foot-activated power liftgate is height-adjustable. Internally, the steering wheel is heated, the SofTex-trimmed driver’s seat receives eight-way power adjustment including lumbar support, and both front seats are heated and ventilated. It’s also possible to remotely access, pre-heat/cool, charge and even find your vehicle remotely, all through a subscription app accessible via Alexa or Google Assistant-powered devices (including smartwatches).
For $350, you can add heated rear seats and front radiant legwarmers. An additional $580 adds to this a nine-speaker JBL premium audio system, but you can’t pick the stereo in isolation.
Compare bZ4X Trims Side-By-Side
Costing around $2,000 more than XLE models, the Limited trim offers plenty of comforts that justify the price premium, making it our pick of the range. The JBL stereo is also a worthwhile upgrade, but it’s disappointing that you have to add a heating package to access it, even in sunnier states.
