What's New
The 2022 Audi e-tron EV receives a sprinkling of adjustments to its options packages. The top-shelf Chronos Edition replaces last year's Prestige trim. The all-electric Audi e-tron bowed for 2019 and has received regular equipment updates since then. The e-tron name has since been expanded to include two separate models: the Audi e-tron GT sedan and Q4 e-tron crossover.
Choosing Your Audi e-tron
The e-tron is offered in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Chronos Edition. Pricing starts at $66,995 including destination and reaches $84,495 for the Chronos Edition.
Audi also offers a coupe-styled version called the e-tron Sportback, ranging from $70,195 to $83,395.
Buyers are eligible for a federal tax credit up to $7,500, subject to income limits. In California, the e-tron comes with a $750 Clean Fuel Reward from the state.
Engine Choices
The e-tron is powered by a pair of electric motors, mounted at the front and rear. The combined output is 355 horsepower and 414 lb-ft of torque. With the overboost mode selected, power temporarily increases to 403 hp and 490 lb-ft. The e-tron uses a single-speed automatic transmission, and Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard.
The 95-kWh battery provides up to 222 miles of driving range. Recharging from fully depleted takes about nine hours on a 240-volt home charger. A DC fast charger can bring the battery to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes. The EPA rates the e-tron at 78 miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent MPGe.
With the available Towing Package ($750), the e-tron can pull up to 4,000 pounds.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The e-tron is a compact, two-row crossover with ample room for five. There's 28.5 cubic of cargo space behind the rear seat and 56.5 with it folded. These are acceptable figures for a luxury crossover, which tend to emphasize style over utility.
The Sportback variant's sloping roofline reduces rear headroom and cargo volume a tad.
Safety Features
Most popular safety technology is standard on the e-tron, including lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking.
The Premium's $3,500 Convenience Plus Package contains lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. These features are standard on the Premium Plus, along with traffic sign recognition. The Chronos Edition adds a head-up display and front cross-traffic alert.
Connectivity
The standard infotainment system covers all the bases: a 10.1-inch touchscreen, navigation, 10 speakers, four USB ports, satellite and HD radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Premium Plus and Chronos Edition also get wireless device charging, a phone signal booster, and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system.
e-tron Premium — MSRP From $66,995
The Premium comes with all the requisite trappings and then some. Every example gets a leather interior with heated eight-way power front seats, walnut trim, four-zone climate control, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a universal home remote.
Other features include an adaptive air suspension, a panoramic sunroof, remote start, a hands-free power liftgate, LED headlights, power-folding side mirrors, and 20-inch wheels. In addition to its safety features, the Convenience Plus Package provides Black Optic (gloss black) exterior trim. Rear side airbags are a $400 standalone option.
e-tron Premium Plus — MSRP From $75,895
The Premium Plus tacks on ventilated front seats, driver memory, heated rear seats, ambient interior lighting, illuminated door sills, matrix-design headlights, and full LED animated taillights. The Black Optic Package ($2,400) supplements the gloss black exterior trim with 21-inch black bi-color wheels with orange calibers.
e-tron Chronos Edition — MSRP From $84,495
The Chronos Edition comes exclusively in Chronos Gray paint with complementary Valcona leather seats and ash interior trim. Upgrades include extended leather trim, massaging front seats, and rear side sunshades.
The Black Optic Package and rear side airbags are standard here. Note this trim is still called Prestige on the Sportback because the Chronos Gray color scheme isn't mandatory.
Compare e-tron Trims Side-By-Side
The 2022 Audi e-tron Premium with the Convenience Plus Package installed is our pick of three. The main reasons for upgrading to the Premium Plus or Prestige — like ventilated seats and the Bang & Olufsen system — aren't compelling enough to justify the extra cost.
