2022 BMW 5-Series - Exclusive Ashburn New Car Discounts

The 2022 BMW 5-Series loses some options due to supply shortages. Unavailable this year are wireless charging, a wi-fi hotspot, surround-view cameras, and automated parking. The current design debuted in 2017 and received a midlife refresh for 2020. The next-generation 5-Series luxury sedan will likely arrive for the 2023 model year.

BMW offers the 5-Series in four trim levels: 530i, 530e, 540i, and M550i. Pricing starts at $55,195 including destination and tops out at $77,795 for the M550i.

In the case of the 530e plug-in hybrid, shoppers may be eligible for a federal EV tax credit worth up to $5,836 as well as applicable state plug-in rebates like the California Clean Fuel Reward. As a result, buying a greener vehicle could be more affordable than you think.

Each 5-Series trim gets its own engine, ranging from a turbocharged four-cylinder to a twin-turbo V8. All-wheel is standard on the M550i and available on the others for $2,300. The 5-Series PHEV has an all-electric range of 21 miles.

The 5-Series is a midsize luxury sedan with seating for five, although four is the limit for traveling comfort. The trunk can hold 14 cubic feet, an average amount for a vehicle this size. Available space shrinks to 10 cubic feet on the 530e due to competition from the plug-in hybrid's battery pack.

The 5-Series starts off with plenty of driver assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors.

The Driver Assistance Professional Package ($1,700) adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, and front cross-traffic alert. A head-up display is included in the $2,400 Premium Package.

The standard infotainment system offers a 12.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, 12 speakers, four USB ports, satellite and HD radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

A 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system is standard on the M550i and available on the other trims in the $3,300 Executive Package.

The 530i comes equipped with SensaTec faux leather upholstery, wood interior trim, 16-way power front sport seats, a sunroof, automatic wipers, adaptive LED headlights, and 18-inch wheels. The $600 Convenience Package adds heated front seats and a power trunk lid. These items are included in the $2,400 Premium Package, along with remote start, the head-up display, touchscreen gesture controls, and the Harman Kardon system.

For $3,300, the Executive Package also provides ceramic controls, a power rear sunshade, and manual rear side sunshades. Optional with any package are heated rear seats ($350) and a heated steering wheel ($190).

Seats are available in Dakota leather ($1,500) or Nappa leather ($2,500). Buyers can enhance the Nappa interior with the $1,000 Luxury Seating Package, which provides ventilated 20-way power front seats. Massage function can be added for $1,000.

The $3,050 M Sport Package furnishes gloss black exterior trim, an M Sport steering wheel, and Y-spoke 19-inch wheels. Among the few remaining options are SensaTec dash trim ($500) and beefy M Sport brakes with red or blue calipers ($650).

The 530e offers plug-in hybrid power for enhanced efficiency and performance. The 530i comes standard with 19-inch wheels but is otherwise equipped like the 530i.

The 540i carries the turbocharged six-cylinder engine. Models equipped with the M Sport Package are eligible for a Dynamic Handling Package ($3,500), featuring an adaptive suspension system.

The M550i packs the twin-turbo V8 and standard AWD, plus an M Sport limited-slip differential with torque vectoring and standard M Sport brakes. Additional standard equipment includes remote start, the 20-way front seats, the Convenience Package, and Dakota leather upholstery.
