What's New
Mechanically unchanged for the 2024 model year, BMW’s all-electric iX receives the option of remote parking via a smartphone app, for navigating out of tight parking spaces. It also has more advanced manual battery preconditioning, to expedite charging.
Choosing Your BMW iX
There are only two iX models to choose from, each with a single engine and drivetrain configuration. Prices start at $88,095 (including destination) for the iX xDrive50, rising to $112,495 for the iX M60.
Engine Choices
The standard iX xDrive50 is no slouch, with two electric motors and a 111.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. These power all four wheels, generating 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. If that’s not enough, the M60 uses high-performance motors to generate 610 hp and 811 lb-ft.
Fuel economy for the 2024 iX has yet to be confirmed, but the mechanically identical 2023 model returned an EPA-estimated 86 miles per gallon city, 87 mpg highway, and 86 combined in xDrive50 models on standard 20-inch wheels. The M60 returned 77/80/78 mpg on 22-inch wheels.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (City/Highway/Combined) |
xDrive50 | 516 hp | 564 lb-ft | 86/87/86 mpg |
M60 | 610 hp | 811 lb-ft | 77/80/78 mpg |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity for the five-seater iX stands at 35.5 cu ft with the rear seats in place, and 77.9 cu ft once they’re dropped.
Safety Features
As well as offering a one-pedal driving mode, the iX incorporates brake drying technology, an automatic hill hold function, and dynamic braking control. Dynamic cruise control complements front and rear park distance control, while BMW’s Active Driving Assistant platform includes frontal collision warning, active blind spot detection, lane departure warning, and speed limit information. A Safe Exit system warns occupants about approaching vehicles and cyclists, and the automatic headlights include auto high beams. However, features like active cruise control and active lane-keeping assistance are only available in a $2,300 Driving Assistance package on both models.
Connectivity
Every iX is fitted with a BMW Curved Display, combining a configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen powered by iDrive 8, controlling navigation with real-time traffic information. Wireless device charging, six USB-C power sockets, and satellite radio are standard, alongside the ubiquitous smartphone mirroring.
A 12-speaker sound system can be upgraded to an 18-speaker Harman Kardon system or (for a further $3,700 premium) a 30-speaker 4D audio system from Bowers & Wilkins. The BMW Remote Services app also allows you to track a stolen iX, unlock the doors remotely, and summon concierge services.

2024 BMW iX xDrive50 – MSRP from $88,095
The xDrive50 has a comprehensively equipped cabin, with adjustable ambient lighting and a panoramic Sky Lounge roof joining privacy glass, and a power tailgate. Alongside four-zone climate control with preconditioning, there are heated and power-adjustable front seats and an equally well-specified hexagonal steering wheel, while the exterior cameras have integrated lens washing systems.
Two options packages include the $2,200 Convenience pack, bundling in a head-up display and augmented reality navigation alongside surround-view cameras, parking assistance, and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. The $3,700 Premium package combines these elements with power front seats including massage functionality and a 5G eSIM, while you can also spend a further $3,400 adding a 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins 4D audio system. A cheaper option is the $1,150 Luxury Package, which adds glass and wood controls alongside soft-closing automatic doors.
2024 BMW iX M60 – MSRP from $112,495
The M60 receives some significant mechanical upgrades including self-leveling air suspension and active rear-axle steering. You might spot the blue calipers of its M Sport brakes poking out through the 21-inch bi-color wheels, and you’d certainly notice the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system fitted inside the cabin. It’s impossible to miss the head-up display with its augmented view touch display, while other key upgrades include ventilated front seats and heated rear ones; there are also heating elements everywhere from the armrests to the doors and instrument panels.
The Luxury Package remains available, while the $2,300 Driving Assistance Professional Package combines autonomous parking and active cruise control with limited hands-free driving in traffic jams and highways.
The xDrive50’s performance will be more than satisfactory for most iX buyers, and it costs almost $25,000 less than the full-bore M60 model without missing any vital equipment.
