2023 BMW X4 - Exclusive Ashburn New Car Discounts

The 2023 BMW X4 was refreshed for 2022 and carries into the new model year with few changes.

The X4 is available in three trims, the xDrive30i, the M40i, and the X4 M. Base prices range from $54,395 to $77,395.

The X4 is offered with three powertrains that essentially match the X3’s lineup - even down to the MPG ratings. The M40i features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for extended engine-off periods and instantaneous acceleration boost and a rear-drive biased turning for the all-wheel-drive system. Despite sharing the same displacement, the X4 M’s engine is notably different with twin turbochargers, strengthened internals, improved cooling, and high-performance lubrication systems. The Competition Package tunes the engine for more power while the X4 M with the M Driver’s Package increases the top speed from 155 mph to 177 mph. All trims are standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.

The X4, at 187.6 inches, is a couple of inches longer and an inch wider than its more utilitarian-designed sibling, the X3. In fact, it’s also longer than the Mercedes GLC Coupe, Audi Q5 Sportback, and INFINITI QX55. Its coupe-like roofline cuts down on interior space with 35.5 inches of rear legroom, and 37.5 inches of rear headroom – both less than the X3 but on par with its style-conscientious competition. Cargo space is a similar story where the X4 offers 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats or 50.5 cubic feet with the seats folded down.

The X4 follows suit with the rest of the BMW line-up where it features fundamental active safety technology, such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot detection, speed limit information, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and adaptive LED brake lights. The Driving Assistance Professional Package is offered on the M40i for $1,700 and includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering, lane change assist, and front and rear cross-traffic alert.

The X4 is standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with a console-mounted controller, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Remote services, a Wi-Fi Hotspot, navigation, and over-the-air update capability. Unlike some other BMWs, the X4 has yet to receive the iDrive 8 operating system and its curved display.

A Harman Kardon sound system with 600 watts and 16 speakers (with two of those under the front seats), is available for $875 as an upgrade over the standard 12-speaker 205-watt system. A wireless charger is offered for $500. Both upgrades are standard on the X4 M.

The base trim features 19-inch wheels, power-folding heated mirrors with auto-dimming for the driver’s side, a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, and chrome exhaust tips. Inside, the xDrive30i is equipped with powered sport seats with perforated synthetic leather coverings, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, multi-zone climate control, and ambient lighting.

The Convenience Package is offered for $600 and includes proximity entry and additional seat lumbar support while the Premium Package can be had instead for $1,150 and additionally features heated front seats and steering wheel and opens up heated rear seats for $500.

The Parking Assist Package, for $700, adds a surround-view camera system with a 3D view and parking assist. The Dynamic Handling Package ($1,200) includes adaptive dampers and M Sport brakes with blue or red calipers and requires the $2,900 M Sport design package that adds black window surrounds, revised front and rear bumpers, body-color fender trim and side sill garnishes, unique 19-inch wheels, and the features of the Convenience Package.

Ventilated front seats ($500) are available once the Premium Package and leather seats ($1,500) have been added.

The Shadowline Package ($400) requires the M Sport Package and adds headlights with darkened housings, black grille inserts, bumper trim, and exhaust finishers.

The M40i is standard with the M Sport package, adaptive dampers, active exhaust with quad exhaust outlets, and M Sport brakes. It opens up the availability of the Premium Package ($1,350) with heated front seats and steering wheel and a head-up display, and an M Sport rear differential for $1,300. For this year only, the BMW M 50 Years emblems are offered for $200.

The X4 M is equipped with performance upgrades such as a revised suspension design with adaptive dampers, additional chassis bracing, an M-specific steering system, M compound brakes with M logos on the calipers, staggered performance tires wrapped on 20-inch light-alloy wheels, quad exhaust outlets, and an M Sport rear differential. It wears M-specific front and rear fascias to allow for additional cooling capacity, an M rear spoiler mounted on the trunk lid, and plenty of M exterior badges to make it known that this is the pinnacle X4. The interior includes two red programmable drive mode thumb buttons on the steering wheel, an M-specific gauge cluster and head-up display, and carbon fiber trim while the available Executive trim ($2,250) adds the features of the Premium Package and the Parking Package as well as heated front and rear heated seats and steering wheel.

M Sport seats with illuminated M logos are $950 and require an extended leather interior ($1,000). The Competition Package brings 21-inch light-weight wheels, extended leather, a revised exhaust system, M Sport seats, extended Shadowline trim, M seat belt accents, and a higher top speed (177 mph) for $7,000.
