What's New
The 2023 BMW X6 expands the availability of wireless charging and a head-up display but otherwise, the X5-based sports activity coupe remains unchanged from the year prior.
Choosing Your BMW X6
There BMW X6 is offered in three trims, xDrive40i, M50i, and X6 M, and base prices range from $71,095 to $114,695.
Engine Choices
The xDrive40i features a turbocharged six-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system while the M50i and X6 M pack twin-turbocharged V8 engines. All engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system, although the X6 M utilizes high-performance versions of each, as well as an active locking rear differential.
Trim | Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (City/Highway/Combined) |
xDrive40i | 3-liter six-cylinder turbocharged mild-hybrid | 335 hp | 331 lb-ft | 21/25/23 MPG |
M50i | 4-liter V8 turbocharged | 523 hp | 553 lb-ft | 16/22/18 MPG |
X6 M | 4.4-literV8 turbocharged | 600 hp (Competition = 617) | 553 lb-ft (Competition = 553) | 13/18/15 MPG |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The X6 is the coupe-variant of the X5 and nearly matches its footprint with a length of 195 inches and a width of 79 inches. That’s within an inch of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. The sloping roofline cuts into rear passenger space and there are 37.9 inches of headroom and 35.7 inches of legroom which is about three and two inches, respectively, shy of what the X5’s cabin offers.
Cargo space behind the second row is 27.4 cubic feet which grows to 59.6 cubic feet with the seats folded, slightly more than what is offered in the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
Safety Features
The X6 features automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, and rain-sensing wipers.
The full suite of driving assist features such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic lane change, and forward intersection assist can be included through the $1,700 Driving Assistance Professional Package which also requires the Premium Package. The Parking Assistance Package ($800) adds a surround-view camera, automated steering, automatic rear braking, and a drive recorder.
The X6 has not been evaluated by NHTSA or IIHS.
Connectivity
All trims feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen running iDrive 7 with over-the-air update capability, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and HD radio compatibility. Navigation, remote connected services, USB-C chargers, and a 10-speaker sound system are standard. A Wi-Fi Hotspot and wireless charging are included on the M models which also feature a Harman Kardon 464-watt sound system and offer a Bowers & Wilkens 20-speaker 1,500-watt sound system for $3,400.
