2023 BMW X7 - Exclusive Ashburn New Car Discounts

The 2023 BMW X7 receives mid-generation styling updates, big technological enhancements, significant power increases for both of the X7’s trims, and additional standard features for improved vehicle dynamics.

The BMW X7 is available in two trims, the xDrive40i, and the M60i. Base prices range from $78,845 to $104,095. The range-topping ALPINA XB7 will also be refreshed and is expected to debut with further details later this year

There are two engine options. The xDrive40i is equipped with an updated version of BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that produces 375 horsepower and up to 398 pound-feet of torque when the power from a 48V mild-hybrid system with adaptive braking energy recuperation is included. The M60i (formally M50i) gets an all-new 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 that is considered to be a “true M engine”. Power output measures 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque and the powertrain is fitted with a mild-hybrid system as well. Both models are equipped with a new eight-speed transmission that offers faster shifts and better integration with the electrically-powered systems.

Both X7 powertrains are not only more powerful but more efficient than before with EPA-estimated ratings of 21 miles per gallon city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 combined. The performance-focused variant achieves a combined rating of 18 mpg.

The X7 measures 203.3 inches in length and sits 78.7 inches wide, which places it about the same size as a Mercedes-Benz GLS and is a touch larger than the Audi Q7. Inside the X7 seats seven with a second-row bench seat or six with the optional ($850) captain’s chairs. Third-row legroom is 37.6 inches, which is less than its competitors save the Lexus LX, and cargo space behind the third row is also relatively compact with 12.8 cubic feet of space but it can expand to 48.6 cubic feet with the third row folded and 90.4 cubic feet with both rows folded, which are best in class. Only the much larger Escalade offers more room inside.

The X7 is rated to tow up to 7,500 pounds and, through the Parking Assistant Professional package, features Trailer Assistant which enables steering wheel reversing with the iDrive controller.

The X7 is standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, speed limit information, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, and safe exit warning. The Driving Assistance Professional Package is $1,700 and includes the full suite of active safety technology such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and lane change assist. Equipping this package opens up the Parking Assistance Package ($900) that adds a surround-view camera and a suite called Parking Assistant Professional. This package includes an improved highly-automated parking assist system, the capability for the car to retrace its path just traveled, a surround-view camera system with 3D views of the vehicle, and a drive recorder.

The BMW has not yet been rated by NHTSA or IIHS.

The new curved 14.9-inch touchscreen display is tough to miss. It runs the latest BMW infotainment software and includes natural voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM connectivity, navigation, a 5G Wi-Fi Hotpot, BMW’s remote connected services, and phone-as-a-key that can detect an iPhone’s motion within six-feet to unlock the doors, cue the welcome lighting, and start the car (once inside). A Bowers & Wilkens premium sound system is offered for $4,200 and adds 10 more speakers (for a total of 20), with 10 channels, and 1,500 watts of total power. A mid-range sound system is newly found within the $1,850 Premium package.

The refreshed X7 is easy to distinguish from last year’s model and wears BMW’s latest styling cues with a revised front fascia that incorporates split front lighting, where the top housing features the LED daytime running lights and the lower housing fits the LED low and high beams. The rear end includes an updated slim LED taillight design and some minor nip and tuck.

The M Sport Package ($2,900) comprises a newly designed front and rear fascia with gloss black finishes that extend to the body-side trim, roof rail, and window surrounds, unique 21-inch wheels, and trapezoidal exhaust outlets. The M Sport Package also adds an M Sport steering wheel, stainless-steel pedals, a premium headliner, an M-specific key, and unique logos within the standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

The newly standard heated multi-contour seats for the driver and front passenger can be fitted with massage functionality through the $3,950 Executive Package that also includes a panoramic sunroof that extends the interior’s ambient lighting, heated and cooled cup holders, soft-close doors, a rear electric window shade, and glass controls for the iDrive controller, the newly-designed transmission selector, and start/stop button.

The soft-close doors, a head-up display, and window shades can be had through the less expensive Premium Package.

The Dynamic Handling Package ($3,300) brings four-wheel steering, adaptive dampers which complement the standard air suspension, and an electromechanically-operated stabilization system that utilizes cameras to detect the road surface and curves ahead to allow for real-time adjustments.

The Climate Comfort Package is $1,600 and adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a five-zone automatic climate control system while the synthetic leather seats can be upgraded to full Merino leather for $4,650 but require another $1,000 for a premium headliner.

The M60i features 22-inch wheels, the styling and features of the M Sport Package, an M rear differential, and sport-tuned suspension. The features of the Dynamic Handling Package are newly standard as are an illuminated grille, a head-up display, extended Merino leather (a fully-wrapped leather interior drives another $2,700), and a premium headliner. The Executive Package is now $2,100 due to already-included features and adds massaging front seats, a panoramic sunroof with ambient lighting, and temperature-controlled cup holders. The Climate Comfort Package remains an option while BMW M 50 Years emblems are available for $200.
