For its final year, Ford delivers the Fusion Energi in one trim level: the well-equipped Titanium. It starts at $35,995 including destination.
Engine Choices
Under the hood of the Ford Fusion Energi is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque and an 88-kW electric motor. It works with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. A 9.0-kWh lithium-ion battery stores electricity.
When fully charged, this front-wheel-drive model has a 26-mile electric-only range, according to the EPA. It achieves 42 miles per gallon combined, or 103 miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe) combined.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Ford Fusion Energi seats five with ample space front and back. The interior nearly matches the space found in some large cars and is roomier than the now-retired Ford Taurus. Cargo volume measures just 8.2 cubic feet as the battery pack intrudes into the trunk. That’s almost half the space found in the standard Fusion.
Safety Features
Ford has the Fusion Energi outfitted with a long list of safety features under its Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist bundle. These include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Ford also includes adaptive cruise control and a feature developed in house and unique to its vehicles: inflatable rear outboard safety belts.
Connectivity
Ford supplies the Fusion Energi with its SYNC 3 infotainment system. This package includes voice-activated technology, a touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility, and navigation. A 12-speaker Sony audio system, HD radio, satellite radio, and two USB ports round out the tech offerings.
Titanium - From $35,995
There isn’t a better-equipped or more efficient Fusion anywhere than the Energi Titanium. The equipment list is impressive, rivaling what some premium models offer.
Ford equips the Fusion Energi with heated power-controlled side mirrors with approach lights, chrome treatments, a rear decklid spoiler, and LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights.
Inside, the Fusion Energi has leather-trimmed seats, heated and cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and ambient lighting.
Upgrading to the power moonroof ($1,095) puts the final touch on this efficient sedan.
The 2020 Ford Fusion Energi is just $550 more than the equivalent Fusion Titanium, although the gas model includes the power moonroof. Eligible buyers may also claim the $4,609 federal tax credit, which makes the plug-in hybrid the better buy. Local incentives may lower your cost further, with perhaps the greatest savings realized at the fuel pump.
