What's New
The 2022 Honda Civic receives a total redesign, marking the eleventh generation of the popular compact. The latest Civic follows a clean design aesthetic that lets the basic shape speak for itself. The longer hood and expanded glass areas result in a more prestigious look. Inside, the dashboard switches to a horizontal spread and floating touchscreen as part of the de-cluttering effort.
Suspension and engine refinements promise smoother performance and enhanced efficiency. All models gain an updated version of the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features, along with rear side airbags. Newly available features include wireless device charging, fully digital instrumentation, and a Bose sound system.
Choosing Your Honda Civic
The 2022 Civic sedan is offered in four trims: LX, Sport, EX, and Touring. Pricing starts at $22,695 including destination and tops out at $29,295 for the fully-loaded Touring. A hatchback version will debut later this year. Note that the Civic coupe was discontinued for 2021. We expect to details on the next Civic Si and Type R at a later date.
Engine Choices
Like last year, the LX and Sport come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the EX and Touring get a 1.5-liter turbo.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
2.0L 4-Cylinder | 158 hp | 138 lb-ft | 35 mpg |
1.5L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 180 hp | 177 lb-ft | 36 mpg |
Every Civic is equipped with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Civic is compact sedan with room for five. The rear quarters are spacious for a car this size, making three-across seating is a reality in local travel. The trunk is also larger than average at 14.8 cubic feet.

Safety Features
The LX and Sport now come standard with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and front collision mitigation with automatic braking. Stepping up to the EX brings blind-spot monitoring. The Touring adds cross-traffic monitoring and parking sensors.
Connectivity
The infotainment setup for the LX includes a 7-inch touchscreen, four speakers, a USB port, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Sport comes with eight speakers, and the EX adds a second USB port.
Real improvement arrives with the Touring model, which carries a 9-inch touchscreen, 12-speaker Bose sound, HD and satellite radio, navigation, two rear USB ports, wireless phone integration, and wireless device charging.

The LX provides all the expected features, like push-button start, cloth upholstery, and a folding rear seat. Buyers also get automatic climate control, full LED headlights, and a 7-inch driver information display. The LX rolls in 16-inch steel wheels with full covers.
The Sport picks up proximity key access, paddle shifters, sport pedals, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Outside are 18-inch gloss black wheels and gloss black side mirrors caps.
The EX drops the Sport's paddle shifters and wheels, but gains a sunroof, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and a split-folding rear seat with center armrest and cupholders. The EX switches to 17-inch alloy wheels with gloss black inserts.
The Touring offers a leather interior with power front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, and a universal home remote. The exterior receives automatic wipers, LED fog lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels with gloss gray inserts.
Compare Civic Trims Side-By-Side
The LX is a lot of car for the money, so long as you don't mind four-speaker sound or plastic wheel covers. The Sport offers better cosmetics and a few more features, but it's the EX that feels like a fully equipped car. The most compelling reason to spring for the Touring is its impressive sound system and wireless connectivity, which aren't available elsewhere in the lineup.
