What's New
The 2022 Honda Pilot now comes standard with LED headlights, an 8-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The entry-level LX and EX trims are gone, but Honda plans to introduce a new base model this fall, reportedly aimed at younger buyers. The current Pilot crossover SUV debuted in 2016 and received a significant update in 2019.
Choosing Your Honda Pilot
The Honda Pilot currently comes in five trim levels: EX-L, Special Edition (SE), Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.
Pricing starts at $40,285 including destination and reaches $51,845 for the fully-loaded Pilot Black Edition.
Engine Choices
Every Pilot carries a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission does the shifting
All-wheel drive is standard on the Elite and Black Edition and costs $2,000 everywhere else in the lineup. The Pilot is capable of towing 3,500 pounds with front-wheel drive, and 5,000 pounds with AWD.
According to EPA fuel economy estimates, the Pilot gets 20 miles per gallon city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 combined with FWD, or 19/26/22 mpg (city/highway/combined) with AWD.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Pilot is a midsize, three-row crossover SUV with seating for up to eight. Capacity dips to seven with second-row captain's chairs, which are optional on the Touring ($300) and standard on the Elite and Black Edition.
There's 16.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, and 46.8 cubic feet with it folded. With the second row folded as well, the Pilot can swallow 83.9 cubic feet, a top-tier showing for this class.
Safety Features
Most driver assistance features are standard on the Pilot. Every example gets adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking. The Touring and above also get front and rear parking sensors.
A sign of the Pilot's age, a surround-view camera isn't available.
Connectivity
The Pilot starts out with an 8-inch touchscreen, seven speakers, three USB ports, satellite and HD radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Stepping up to the SE brings wireless device charging.
The Touring, Elite, and Black Edition get a 10-speaker sound system, navigation, wi-fi capability, and a 10.2-inch rear entertainment system.
Pilot EX-L — MSRP From $40,285
Although it may be the cheapest Pilot currently available, the EX-L comes loaded with popular equipment. Standard amenities include leather upholstery, 10-way power driver and four-way power passenger seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunroof, a power liftgate, a power-folding second row, and remote start.
The outside wears heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, and full LED lighting, including fog lights.
Pilot Special Edition — MSRP From $40,885
The SE (Special Edition) trim gets black exterior trim and black 20-inch wheels, plus roof rails and a hands-free power liftgate.
Pilot Touring — MSRP From $44,845
Along with its infotainment upgrades, the Touring trim offers heated outboard second-row seats, ambient LED interior lighting, chrome door handles, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Pilot Elite — MSRP From $50,345
The Elite comes standard with AWD, a panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors. The Elite's primary appeal is interior luxury.
Passengers can look forward to perforated leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain's chairs, a heated steering wheel, multi-zone audio, LED map lights, and illuminated cup holders in the first and second rows.
Pilot Black Edition — MSRP From $51,845
The Black Edition combines the Elite upgrades with an all-black design theme inside and out, punctuated by red LED interior lighting.
Compare Pilot Trims Side-By-Side
With the stingier trims expelled from the lineup, the 2022 Honda Pilot comes very well equipped from the start. Most buyers will be fully satisfied with the EX-L, and we happen to think it's the best value of the lot.
