Introduction
2024 Hyundai Kona Changes
While it retains much of the funky design it’s had since its debut, the 2024 Hyundai Kona will be a complete redesign. The biggest change in this redesign is in its size, as the gasoline model will grow by 5.7 inches in length and an inch in width to 171.3 inches and 71.9 inches, respectively. It’ll also ride on a 104.7-inch wheelbase, which is 2.3 inches longer. This will help boost its interior volume to make it a bit more family-friendly.
Other upgrades for this redesign include dual 12.3-inch display screens, Digital Key 2 Touch, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, new safety technology, and more.
Choosing Your 2024 Hyundai Kona
The base gasoline-fueled 2024 Kona has four trims: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited. Prices for these trims range from $24,100 to $31,650. The 2024 Kona lineup will also include the high-performance Kona N and an all-electric model. None of these prices are available yet but stay tuned for updates.
2024 Hyundai Kona Engine Options
The 2024 Hyundai Kona SE and SEL feature a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 147 horsepower (hp) and 132 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. This engine pairs with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The N Line and Limited trims get a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. This engine mates with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has two powertrain options. The standard setup includes a 48.6-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack that powers an electric motor that delivers 133 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. Moving into the upgraded 64.8 kWh battery pack bumps the power to 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai hasn’t announced the official driving range, but it estimates the 64.8 kWh model will travel 260 miles on a charge.
Later in the model year, Hyundai will release the Kona N. Details are still unavailable for this performance variant, but in 2023, it included a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
All trims route power to the front wheels as standard, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional.
2024 Hyundai Kona Fuel Economy
The 2024 Hyundai Kona has only been through a portion of the fuel economy testing, as some trims are not available for testing yet. With the base 2.0-liter engine and front-wheel drive (FWD), the 2024 Kona gets 28 to 29 mpg city, 34 to 35 highway, and 31 combined. AWD drops these numbers slightly to 26 to 27 mpg city, 29 highway, and 27 to 28 combined.
With the 1.6-liter turbo engine, fuel economy checks in at 26 mpg city, 32 highway, and 28 combined with FWD. AWD reduces this to 24 mpg city, 29 highway, and 26 combined.
We have no specifics on the Kona N or Kona Electric fuel economy ratings.

2024 Hyundai Kona Dimensions & Cargo Capacity
The 2024 Kona is a small SUV, but it has plenty of room. It offers a spacious 38.2 inches of rear legroom and 38.3 inches of rear headroom, making it suitable for kids and adults. In its cargo area, the Kona offers 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats upright and 63.7 cubes with them folded. The Kona Electric adds even more storage, as it can fit up to an additional 0.95 cubic feet of cargo in its front trunk (frunk).
2024 Hyundai Kona Safety
The 2024 Hyundai Kona comes equipped with loads of standard advanced safety and driver-assist features. These include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic rear braking, lane-keeping assist, lame-following assist, speed-limit assist, driver attention warning, high-beam assist, safe-exit warning, rear occupant alert, and more.
The 2024 Kona hasn’t been through IIHS safety testing yet, but the 2023 model earned “Good” crash tests across the board and really only faltered because automatic emergency braking was only an option. In the 2024 model year, this useful safety feature is standard, so it may qualify as a Top Safety Pick. Stay tuned for an update.

The SE trim features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual front USB-C ports, dual rear USB-C ports, a rearview camera, a six-speaker audio system, and more.

2024 Hyundai Kona Limited - MSRP From $31,650
Build & Price >The Kona Limited builds upon the SEL trim. On the outside, it adds 19-inch alloy wheels, full-time LED daytime running lights, full-LED taillights, a satin-chrome beltline, a hands-free power liftgate, and more.
Inside, this trim adds a surround-view monitor, H-Tex leatherette seating, soft-touch door panels and crash pads, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, a universal garage door opener, ambient interior lighting, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more.
Hyundai has not yet unveiled the pricing and features for the Kona Electric or Kona N. Check back for updates on the pricing and features for these trim levels.
With even more standard features, the base SE trim looks even more attractive than in previous years. That said, the SEL with the $2,200 Convenience Package seems like the best overall deal, as it includes premium features like a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, heated front seats, wireless charging pad, upgraded automatic emergency braking, navigation, adaptive cruise control, Wi-Fi, and more.
