N/AIntroduction
The 2019 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid offers 28 miles of all-electric range and 600 miles of total range. Both trim levels are generously equipped, with recent additions to the list of safety features.
What's New for 2019
A number of safety features are now fitted as standard to the 2019 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There are also new alloy wheels.
Choosing Your Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid
The Sonata Plug-In Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine working in tandem with a 50-kW electric motor. Power is fed to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with manual override. The combined hybrid system makes 202 horsepower while achieving an EPA-estimated 39 miles per gallon combined, or 99 miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe).
There’s an impressive safety roster on the Sonata Plug-In Hybrid. Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, seven airbags, and LED headlights and taillights. Furthermore, the heated side mirrors fold when the vehicle is locked, and the rearview mirror automatically dims.
The Sonata Plug-In Hybrid is available in two trims:
Base
The base Sonata Plug-In Hybrid costs $34,320 (all prices include the $920 destination fee). It offers dual-zone automatic temperature control, an 8-way power adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a 7-inch touchscreen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, push-button start, keyless entry, and a Dimension audio system with a subwoofer and external amplifier. There are no packages available on this model.
Limited
The Plug-In Hybrid Limited costs $39,920, but there are good reasons for its $5,600 price hike over the standard model. Standard safety features include pedestrian detection for the automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and rear parking sensors. LED headlights come with automatic high beam assist, and there’s an automatic vehicle hold system for the electronic parking brake.
The entire cabin is clad in leather trim; the front passenger seat receives six-way power adjustment, and both front seats are ventilated. The touchscreen increases to eight inches, while sound is now controlled by an Infinity audio system. Again, there are no packages available on this model.
If your budget allows, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid Limited provides a number of worthwhile upgrades over the base model, including several important safety features.
