What's New
The 2020 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid provides electric-only efficiency without the anxiety of being left stranded without juice. For 2020, the compact crossover gets a significant styling refresh with updates to the front and rear styling, upgraded interior displays, and its new base model has more safety technology than before.
Choosing Your Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid
The Niro Plug-In is available in three trim levels: LXS, EX, and EX Premium. Pricing starts at $30,610 including destination for the base LXS and rises to $37,510 for the EX Premium.
Engine Choices
The Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that's matched with an electric motor for a combined output of 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 8.9-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery allows for 26 miles of all-electric range, according to the EPA. The Niro Plug-In Hybrid also achieves 46 miles per gallon combined, or 105 miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe).
On a Level 2 (240-volt) charger, the battery pack can be recharged in about 2 hours and 15 minutes, according to Kia. Steering-wheel mounted paddles either shifts the gears in Sport Mode or adjusts the energy regeneration levels when in Eco Mode.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Niro Plug-In Hybrid can seat five passengers, providing 37.4 inches of leg room for rear passengers. It offers 19.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, or 54.5 cubic feet with it folded down.

Safety Features
The Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and a driver attention warning system. The EX trim add adaptive cruise control and lane following assist (think lane centering assist), while the EX Premium gets rear parking sensors.
Connectivity
The Niro Plug-In Hybrid gets an 8-inch touchscreen as standard, an improvement over last year's 7-inch unit. The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB input.
The EX trim adds wireless charging. On the range-topping EX Premium, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, satellite radio, and HD radio becomes standard.

The base LXS trim comes standard with 16-inch wheels, silver roof rails, a rear spoiler, and black wheel arches, which help give it a bit more visual flair as its familiar body shape easily blends in with the crossover crowd.
Other standard features include keyless entry, push button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a six-speaker audio system, and a 4.2-inch driver information display.
The mid-level EX trim gains LED taillights, fog lights, and power-folding and heated side mirrors. The driver enjoys a larger 7-inch gauge display, while the interior gains 10-way power front seats, heated front seats, cloth and leather upholstery, a wireless phone charger, and adjustable mood lighting.
The top-of-the-line EX Premium trim is handsomely equipped with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, synthetic leather seating, memory settings for the driver's seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Compare Niro Plug-In Hybrid Trims Side-By-Side
The 2020 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid is notable for both its versatile powertrain and the value it offers. The EX trim’s reasonable price, updated exterior appearance, and interior conveniences make it the top choice.
