The 2023 Kia Soul wears revised front and rear fascias and gets a major boost in standard driver assistance technology. The rugged X-Line and line-topping Turbo trims have departed. Kia's smallest crossover, the current Soul debuted in 2020.

The Soul now comes in four trims: LX, S, GT-Line, and EX. Pricing starts at $21,085 including destination and reaches $25,385 for the EX.

The Soul carries a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) sends power to the front wheels.

According to EPA estimates, the Soul delivers 28 miles per gallon city, 33 mpg highway, and 30 combined.

The Soul is a subcompact crossover with ample room for five thanks to its boxy design. Cargo space is also better than expected at 24.2 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 62.1 cubic feet with it folded. All models feature an adjustable cargo shelf in back.

The Soul now comes standard with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver alertness monitoring, automatic high beams, and a rear-seat reminder. The $500 Technology Package for the LX includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. These items are standard on subsequent trims.

The GT-Line only can be equipped with adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking with side detection. These are included in the expansive GT-Line Technology Package ($2,400).

The standard infotainment systems include an 8-inch touchscreen, six speakers, a USB port, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Starting with the S, all models get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, a second USB port, satellite radio, and wireless phone charging.

The GT-Line Technology Package includes a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The LX comes with the expected equipment for this class, like rear privacy glass, keyless entry, manual climate control, and power side mirrors. The LX rolls on 16-inch steel wheels with full covers. Alloy wheels are included in the LX Technology Package.

In addition to its connectivity upgrades, the S offers dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, proximity keyless access, upgraded cloth upholstery, and standard alloy wheels.

The GT-Line picks up more aggressive exterior trim, a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, and a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel. Besides its safety and connectivity upgrades, the GT-Line Technology Package adds heated front seats, a 10-way power driver seat, full LED exterior lighting, an electronic parking brake, and a cargo cover.

The EX builds on the S with premium cloth seating, heated front seats with 10-way driver power, a sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a cargo cover, and 17-inch wheels.
