What's New
The only significant change for the 2023 model year is a lightly revised 2.5-liter engine, which has boosted power output while marginally improving fuel economy. There’s still the choice of a turbo engine, and six trim levels across this compact SUV range.
Choosing Your Mazda CX-30
There are six trim levels across the CX-30 range, one of which has the option of two different 2.5-liter gas engines (one normally aspirated, the other turbocharged). Flagship Turbo Premium Plus caps the range at $36,675. At the other end of the price scale, a base S model will set you back $24,225. There are price jumps of around $2,000 between intermediate trims, though Carbon Edition costs only $1,070 more than the $29,495 cost of a mid-range Preferred model.
Engine Choices
The normally aspirated 2.5-liter gas engine fitted to most CX-30 models generates 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, fed to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy stands at an EPA-estimated 26 miles per gallon city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 combined.
The turbocharged version of this engine produces a more emphatic 250 hp and 320 lb-ft, while fuel economy drops to 22/30/25 MPG.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (City/Highway/Combined) |
2.5 | 191 hp | 186 lb-ft | 26/33/29 mpg |
2.5 turbo | 250 hp | 320 lb-ft | 22/30/25 mpg |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity for the five-seater CX-30 stands at 20.2 cu ft with the rear seats in place.
Safety Features
Apart from base S models missing out on blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts, every CX-30 enjoys a keyless remote panic button, high beam control, a driver attention alert, and radar-guided cruise control that works down to a standstill. Lane keep assist and lane departure warnings are also incorporated, alongside eight airbags, automatic LED headlights, and rain-sensing wipers. Premium models gain a full-color head-up display and traffic sign recognition, but only Premium Plus has a surround-view camera, parking sensors, and traffic jam assist.
Connectivity
An 8.8-inch voice-controlled center screen with full smartphone integration supports the HD and internet radio systems fitted to every model, paired with an eight-speaker sound system. Turbo models upgrade this to a 12-speaker Bose audio system. Premium models all receive navigation, while turbo-powered vehicles additionally gain satellite radio.
2023 Mazda CX-30 S – MSRP from $24,225
The most affordable CX-30 comes with body-colored folding power side mirrors and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Remote keyless entry permits access to a cabin where you’ll find a seven-inch LCD meter display, air con, push-button start, and power locks/windows.
There are no packages on any model.
2023 Mazda CX-30 S Select – MSRP from $26,525
The first CX-30 to be sold with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts, Select models are distinguished from their cheaper siblings by 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, and roof rails. Inside, dual-zone climate and rear air conditioning vents join a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector.
2023 Mazda CX-30 S Preferred – MSRP from $29,495
The main upgrade on Preferred models is the inclusion of eight-way power for the leatherette driver’s seat including two-position memory and power lumbar; both front seats are also heated. An overhead console includes a sunglasses holder beside a sliding moonroof with an interior sunshade, while the side mirrors have memory and tilt-in-reverse functionality.
2023 Mazda CX-30 S Carbon Edition – MSRP from $30,565
The first models to be sold with heated side mirrors, Carbon Edition CX-30s receive styling flourishes to distinguish them from other trims, plus red leather seating.
2023 Mazda CX-30 Premium – MSRP from $32,335
Signature LEDs with adaptive front lighting distinguish Premium models at one end, with a power liftgate with programmable height adjustment at the other. Paddle shifters and navigation are obvious improvements in the cabin, alongside traffic sign recognition and a color head-up display, while Turbo models receive a 12-speaker Bose stereo and a windshield wiper de-icer.
2023 Mazda CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus – MSRP from $36,675
Look closely, and you might spot the roof-mounted signal-boosting antenna fitted to Premium Plus models or the HomeLink functionality built into the frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror. In terms of safety, this is the only CX-30 to include smart rear brake support, traffic jam assistance, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.
Compare CX-30 Trims Side-By-Side
It’s disappointing that Premium Plus is the only CX-30 to sport a full array of safety aids. If your budget stretches, this would be our choice, though Premium models are generously equipped in all other regards.
