The 2023 Mazda MX-30 enters its second model year virtually unchanged. The all-electric crossover is sold in California only. An extended-range version of the MX-30 has debuted in Europe, but we don't know yet whether it will land in the U.S.
Choosing Your Mazda MX-30
The MX-30 comes in two trim levels: MX-30 EV and Premium Plus. Pricing starts at $35,385 including destination and tops out at $38,395 for the Premium Plus.
Engine Choices
Every MX-30 carries an electric motor that develops 143 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. A single-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels.
According to the EPA, the MX-30 can travel up to 100 miles on a single charge, which means vacation trips are out of the question. Recharging the battery from 20 to 80 percent takes about 36 minutes at the Level 3 public charging station. The process takes three hours on a Level 2 home charger.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The MX-30 is a compact, two-row crossover with seating for five. The rear seat is below average on legroom, though the reverse-opening rear doors make the space easy to access. The cargo area holds 21 cubic feet, or 41.4 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. That compares favorably to some hatchback EVs but is considerably less than most crossover EVs.
Safety Features
The MX-30 excels in standard driver assistance technology. Every example comes with adaptive cruise control, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, a head-up display, and driver alertness monitoring. The Premium Plus adds front parking sensors, front cross-traffic alert, evasive steering assist, and surround-view cameras.
Connectivity
The MX-30 starts out with an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, eight speakers, two USB ports, HD and internet radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and complimentary subscription-based navigation and traffic data for three years. The Premium Plus carries a 12-speaker Bose sound system with satellite radio. A built-in navigation system is available on both trims for $450.

The MX-30 EV offers a leatherette upholstery with cloth trim, heated front seats, an 8-way power driver seat with memory, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic climate control. The exterior gets heated power-folding mirrors, adaptive LED front lighting, and 18-inch alloy wheels. A sunroof and automatic wipers are also standard.

Along with its safety and connectivity upgrades, the Premium Plus offers a heated steering wheel and proximity key access.
