What's New
After a brief hiatus, the Mercedes-Maybach sedan returns for 2022. This model comes in S580 and S680 trims. An AMG version may follow later in the model year.
The new range-topping Maybach models supply unique color choices inside and out. A new suspension system and standard all-wheel drive for the S680 are included. Other changes include a unique hood, roof design, a longer overall length, and upgraded technologies.
Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Mercedes divides the S-Class line into Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-Maybach models. The standard models come in S500 and S580 trims. The Mercedes-Maybach is offered in S580 and S680 trims.
Engine Choices
Turbocharged engine choices grace the S-Class line. The first two of three engines are also mild hybrids that add 21 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Both engines send power to all four wheels utilizing a 9-speed automatic transmission. The top Mercedes-Maybach model comes with a V12 engine, which also works with a 9-speed transmission.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
3.0 Turbo V6 | 429 hp | 384 lb-ft | 24 mpg |
4.0L Turbo V8 | 496 hp | 526 lb-ft | 20 mpg |
6.0L Turbo V12 | 621 hp | 664 lb-ft | TBD |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The S-Class seats five or four with the Executive Package. The front seats are extremely comfortable with full power, heating, ventilating, and massaging. The rear seats are comfortable as well, more so with the two-passenger configuration.
In its standard arrangement, the trunk delivers 19 cubic feet of storage capacity. The space shrinks somewhat in models equipped with the rear refrigerator or upgraded sound system.
Safety Features
Although not crash tested, the S-Class comes with a robust list of standard safety equipment. These features include automatic emergency braking, active lane control with emergency stop, lane-change assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Mercedes also includes blind-spot monitoring with brake support, automatic parking, steering and brake assist, and throttle management. Also available are a rear-seat airbag system, night vision, and a surround-view camera system.
Connectivity
The S-Class comes with an MBUX infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch touch-screen display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard. Wireless phone charging, multiple USB ports, and a Burmeister sound system are included.
Models equipped with the Executive Package come with a rear entertainment system, two 11.6-inch screens, and a removable 9-inch tablet. Among the options are a 3D instrument panel, augmented reality navigation overlays, and a Burmeister 4D sound system.

Heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, LED ambient lighting, a surround-view system, and power rear-side window sunshades are included. The AMG Line includes 19-inch AMG wheels, AMG body styling, and brushed stainless steel pedals.
S-Class S580 4MATIC Sedan – MSRP $117,350
Like the standard model, customers may upgrade to the AMG Line for $4,300. This model adds an Executive Line that adds $15,150 to the base price. This model benefits from a turbocharged V8 engine. S-Class Maybach S580 4MATIC Sedan – MSRP $185,950

The Maybach builds on all the features of a fully-loaded S580. Exquisite leathers, advanced massaging, reclining rear seats, upgraded HVAC, and 20-inch Maybach wheels.
S-Class Maybach S680 4MATIC Sedan – MSRP TBD
Building on the standard Maybach model, this one brings in a V12 engine. Among the available options are exclusive Maybach two-tone paint schemes and an active body control suspension system. A rear refrigerated compartment with champagne flutes and flute holders is also available.
