Highlights:

MINI Countryman PHEV Tax Credit
The MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid is not eligible for a federal tax credit. Even though it's a PHEV capable of driving solely on electric power, the model is excluded due to the Inflation Reduction Act. The legislation heavily favors vehicles assembled in North America.
Having said that, a number of automakers are taking advantage of a tax credit loophole to claim a commercial credit on leases. When the incentive is passed along to consumers as lease cash, this can make some vehicles significantly better to lease than to buy.
Check with your MINI dealer for the latest news on how the automaker is navigating the changes to the tax credit.
MINI Countryman Clean Vehicle Rebate
The MINI Countryman is not eligible for California's Clean Vehicle Rebate. This appears to be due to the plug-in not meeting the state's minimum range requirement.
Other plug-in hybrids may be eligible for the $1,000 incentive, which is available to most applicants after completing a purchase or lease transaction.

What's New
The 2023 MINI Countryman continues with the Classic subtrim now standard on most variants. The current Countryman debuted in 2017 and received a thorough update for 2021.
Choosing Your MINI Countryman
The Countryman comes in four main trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper SE, and John Cooper Works. Models are available in three subtrims: Classic, Signature, and Iconic. Pricing starts at $33,645 including destination and climbs to $44,795 for the John Copper Works before options.
Engine Choices
Each Countryman trim gets its own engine. The Cooper runs with a turbocharged three-cylinder, while the Cooper S carries a four-cylinder turbo. Exclusive to the John Cooper Works is a high-output four-cylinder turbo. The Cooper SE comes with a turbocharged three-cylinder plug-in hybrid setup.
The Cooper and Cooper S start out with front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is available for $1,500 and $2,100, respectively. AWD is standard on the Cooper SE and John Cooper Works. Front-drive models use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and AWD gas versions come with an eight-speed automatic. The Cooper SE carries a six-speed automatic.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
1.5L Turbo 3-Cylinder | 134 hp | 162 lb-ft | 29 mpg |
2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 189 hp | 206 lb-ft | 28 mpg |
1.5L Turbo 3-Cylinder Plug-in Hybrid | 221 hp | 284 lb-ft | 73 MPGe |
2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 301 hp | 331 lb-ft | 26 mpg |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Countryman is a subcompact, two-row crossover with seating for five, although four is probably the limit for adults. The Countryman can carry 17.6 cubic feet of cargo behind the rear seat. With it folded, the capacity balloons to 47.6 cubic feet, a fine showing for the smallest class of crossover.

Safety Features
Every Countryman comes with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and rear parking sensors. Available on the Signature subtrim are adaptive cruise control ($250), a head-up display ($750), and an automated parking system ($500). These items are standard on the Iconic subtrim. Note that popular features like blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist aren't offered on the Countryman.
Connectivity
The standard infotainment system for Countryman provides an 8.8-inch touchscreen, six speakers, HD and satellite radio, two USB ports, and Apple CarPlay (but not Android Auto). Upgrading to the Signature subtrim brings navigation and an available 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system ($850). The Harman Kardon system is standard on the Iconic, along with wireless phone charging.

2024 MINI Countryman Cooper — MSRP From $33,645
Available in Classic trim only, the Cooper offers leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, automatic wipers, heated side mirrors and windshield washers, LED headlight and fog lights, roof rails, and 17-inch wheels. AWD is the only factory option for the Cooper.
2024 MINI Countryman Cooper S — MSRP From $33,895
Along with the 189-hp four-cylinder turbo, the Cooper S picks up heated front seats, keyless access, and 18-inch wheels. The Signature trim ($2,600) adds an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-folding side mirrors, and no-cost wheel and roof color choices. The Iconic ($6,900) also carries leather upholstery, power front seats, piano black interior trim, and available no-cost 19-inch wheels. Optional on both the Signature and Iconic is a heated steering wheel ($250) and adaptive shock absorbers ($500).
2024 MINI Countryman Cooper SE — MSRP From $43,695
The AWD plug-in hybrid Cooper SE starts in Signature trim with the heated steering wheel and adaptive shocks standard. The Iconic feature level is available for $5,900. The Signature Upholstery option ($1,000) for both trims adds cross-punch leather sport seats and the buyer's choice of interior finishes.
2024 MINI Countryman John Cooper Works — MSRP From $44,795
The AWD 301-hp John Cooper Works returns to the Classic, Signature ($1,600), and Iconic ($5,700) trim structure, all with front sport seats, a sport steering wheel, specific black wheels, and adjustable shocks. The Signature Upholstery option ($1,400) for the Signature and Iconic adds the cross-punch leather upholstery and piano black interior trim.
Compare MINI Countryman Trims Side-By-Side
The 2024 MINI Countryman Cooper S is priced just $250 higher than the base Cooper, which makes opting for the more powerful S a no-brainer. The SE truly excels in efficiency and the John Cooper Works in performance, though both models require a premium outlay for a crossover this size.
