What's New
Nissan has introduced an all-new Z for the 2023 model year. After three model years away, the Nissan’s sports car returns as a fully-redesigned model with a new name. Gone is the 370Z. In its place is the Z, which borrows a lot of features and components as the 370Z, but wraps it in a new package with retro styling.
Choosing Your Nissan Z
The 2023 Nissan Z is available in three trims: Sport, Performance, and Proto. Prices range from $41,015 (with destination) up to $55,310.
Engine Choices
All Z models come with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. It produces 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Both the manual and automatic Z cost the same. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Z.
When equipped with the automatic transmission, the Z is rated to get up to 22 mpg combined, 19 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on the highway. Zs with the manual transmission are rated at 20/18/24 mpg (combined/city/highway).
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Nissan Z continues to be a strict two-seater. The sports car also continues to feature a hatchback-like design with a large rear hatch that opens wide. Unfortunately, the cargo area can only accommodate up to 6.9 cubic feet of cargo space.
Safety Features
Nissan packs the Z with an extensive list of standard safety features. Z sports cars with the manual transmission and automatic transmission share the same safety features, as the brand doesn’t force consumers to upgrade to an automatic to get safety equipment.
Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam assist, and parking sensors.
Connectivity
The 2023 Z gets a huge upgrade over the 2020 370Z. The Z comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, voice recognition, satellite radio, six audio speakers, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Moving up to the Performance trim brings an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a Bose audio system with eight speakers.
2023 Nissan Z Sport – MSRP From $41,015
The base Z Sport comes better equipped than the 370Z from a few years ago. Standard features include automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, manually adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, push-button start, a tilt and telescoping steering column, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. On the outside, the trim features automatic headlights, LED lighting, and 18-inch wheels.
2023 Nissan Z Performance – MSRP From $51,015
The Z Performance adds a variety of performance features over the base Sport trim. Upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, a performance exhaust system, a limited-slip differential, and 19-inch Rays wheels are standard. Other standard features include heated exterior mirrors, power-adjustable seats, heated seats, leather upholstery, and upgraded paddle shifters for Z models with an automatic transmission.
2023 Nissan Z Proto – MSRP From $55,310
The range-topping Z Proto is a limited-edition sports car with just 240 units expected to be available in the U.S. The Z Proto has a lot of the same features as the Performance but adds bronze 19-inch Rays wheels, a unique shifter, and yellow interior accents.
Even though the 2023 Nissan Z doesn’t offer the same level of performance as some of its rivals, the Japanese sports car is still a traditional sports car. Because of that, the Performance trim, which comes with a host of sporty components, is the best option for most. With the manual transmission being a no-cost option and coming with the same advanced safety features as models with the automatic transmission, we think the do-it-yourself shifter is the way to go.
