What's New
The only significant change for the 2023 model year is the introduction of a mid-range T trim, priced midway between the base model and the high-performance S version. There are no mechanical or styling tweaks to Porsche’s baby SUV.
Choosing Your Porsche Macan
The four-model Macan range starts with the $58,950 base trim, sharing the same engine as the new T model that retails for $64,550. S is the first high-performance model, coming in at $69,850, though speed freaks will be drawn to the $84,350 GTS flagship.
Engine Choices
The most affordable Macan engine is a turbocharged two-liter gas unit producing 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, whose power is fed to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 generates 375 hp and 383 lb-ft, while the GTS model retunes the same engine to pump out 434 hp and 405 lb-ft.
Fuel economy for the smaller engine stands at an EPA-estimated 19 miles per gallon city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 combined. The 2.9 V6 drops to 17/23/19 mpg, while the GTS’s highway economy stands at 22 mpg.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (City/Highway/Combined) |
2.0 turbo | 261 hp | 295 lb-ft | 19/25/21 mpg |
2.9 V6 | 375 hp | 383 lb-ft | 17/23/19 mpg (S, T) 17/22/19 mpg (GTS) |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
Cargo capacity for the five-seater Macan stands at 17.2 cu ft with the rear seats in place, and 52.9 cu ft once they’re dropped.
Safety Features
With eight airbags throughout its cabin, the Macan receives dynamic LED headlights, front and rear park assist, and adaptive cruise control. Hill control is standard alongside lane departure warnings, while the brakes feature 345/330mm internally vented discs at the front and rear respectively; they also benefit from pad wear indicators and braking assistance. Other driver aids include a stability management suite that offers engine drag torque control, automatic braking differential, and anti-slip regulation, alongside active all-wheel drive.
Connectivity
The Macan’s infotainment suite centers on a 10.9-inch touchscreen, complete with wireless internet, navigation, voice control, and Apple CarPlay – but not Android Auto. That remains a major drawback of Porsche ownership. The stereo is also compromised by the lack of digital radio, despite being a punchy 10-speaker, 150-watt affair. There are two 12V and four USB-C sockets around the cabin, but you’ll need to raid the options list for a Bose stereo. A 1,000W Burmester surround sound system is a $5,700 option on GTS models.
2023 Porsche Macan – MSRP from $58,950
The base Macan might lack the luxurious features found higher up the range, but it still cuts a dash courtesy of twin tailpipes, rear privacy glass, and 19-inch silver wheels. Creature comforts include rain-sensing wipers, a fully automatic power tailgate, remote-controlled heated and folding outside mirrors plus three-zone climate control. There’s heating and eight-way power inside the part-leather front seats, while the driver faces onto a leather sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles.
The $2,240 Premium Package combines a Bose surround sound system and heated rear seats with lane change assistance and improved headlights. For $4,910, the Premium Package Plus combines these with 14-way power, memory, and ventilation for the front seats, and a panoramic roof.
2023 Porsche Macan T – MSRP from $64,550
You’d need a keen eye to spot the larger 20-inch wheels and heated steering wheel fitted to T models, though the embossed Porsche headrest logos are easier to identify. The seats themselves are mainly leather, while brushed black aluminum door sill guards make an appearance alongside gray metallic detailing across the body. The biggest upgrade is the addition of a Sport Chrono package, which offers selectable driving modes, launch control, and dynamic engine mounts for superior high-speed stability.
Packages are the same as above.
2023 Porsche Macan S – MSRP from $69,850
The extra power generated by S models is restrained with bigger front brake discs and red calipers, while a digital boost pressure gauge appears in the instrument cluster. Alcantara joins leather on front seats which now have memory.
Packages are the same, though Plus drops slightly in price to $4,640.
2023 Porsche Macan GTS – MSRP from $84,350
If other Macan trims feel broadly similar, GTS cuts more of a dash. Adaptive air suspension sees the car sitting 10mm lower than normal, while the front brake discs swell to 390mm behind 21-inch satin black wheels. A sports exhaust system announces the GTS’s arrival, while occupants relax in GTS-embroidered seats with four-way adjustment for the front headrests.
The Premium Package is dropped, and in its place comes the eye-wateringly costly GTS Sport pack. For $11,910, external improvements include 21-inch GT wheels on performance summer tires with advanced torque vectoring, alongside satin/high gloss black detailing. Inside, you find carbon fiber and Race-Tex finishings, green-stitched leather interior trim, and adaptive front seats with 18-way memory.
Compare Macan Trims Side-By-Side
There are many features unavailable across the Macan range (head-up display, Android Auto, surround-view cameras), which means higher trims struggle to justify their price premium. Unless performance is paramount, we’d buy the base model and improve its rather disappointing specifications with the Premium Plus Package.
