2022 & 2023 Rivian R1T - Exclusive Ashburn New Car Discounts

Rivian’s all-electric R1T truck is boosted this year by the introduction of new 105kWh Standard and 180kWh Max battery packs. There’s also a more affordable dual-mode AWD powertrain, joining 2022’s default four-motor setup. However, there’s still only one trim level, and no scope to add optional extras.

The 2023 Rivian R1T is an AWD truck in any configuration, with the new dual-motor and Standard battery pack combination priced at $74,800 including destination. The range-enhancing Large and Max battery packs cost $6,000 and $16,000 respectively, while the quad-motor AWD drivetrain is an $8,000 upgrade that can only be paired with the Large battery. In its priciest configuration, the R1T will cost $90,800 for a dual motor/Max pack combo.

Rivian’s dual-motor powertrain is described as producing over 600 horsepower and over 600 pound-feet of torque, though the company refuses to be more specific. The quad-motor system’s output rises to 835 hp and 908 lb-ft, while the estimated range varies from 260 miles (Standard) to 400 (Max).

Fuel economy also fluctuates, from an EPA-estimated 69 miles per gallon city, 60 mpg highway, and 64 combined on Standard battery models with all-terrain 20-inch tires to 76/69/73 on economy-oriented 21-inchers. The R1T can be charged from an 800V port at over 200kWh, while a level 2 240V outlet will charge it at 11.5kW.

Cargo capacity for the five-seater R1T truck encompasses a 54-inch by 51-inch bed, which can be extended to 83.8 inches by utilizing the power tailgate. There’s also an 11 cu ft frunk under the hood, while a straight-through gear tunnel beneath the bed offers comparable capacity and is accessed via power doors on either side.

Although the NHTSA hasn’t crash-tested the R1T yet, it achieved a Top Safety Pick + following its IIHS testing. Standard specifications run to auto high beams and a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise, and active lane control, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.

A combination of 28 sensors, cameras, and radar systems work together to provide roughly 20 seconds of hands-free highway driving at a time, while the rear and side-facing cameras can monitor the bed for possible misdemeanors and notify the owner via an app alert if anyone comes within four feet of the vehicle.

A 12.3-inch instrumentation display sits behind the steering wheel, while the dashboard is dominated by a 15.6-inch touchscreen. The latter looks stunning and responds quickly, but simple functions like changing the climate settings can be unduly complex.

The same is true of the unmarked steering wheel buttons, which are designed to offer evolving roles as software is revised through OTA updates. One thing you won’t be getting is smartphone mirroring, while satellite radio is another notable absence. At least navigation is standard, alongside a powerful 19-speaker Meridian sound system.

Rivian has invested a great deal of thought into maximizing the R1T’s practicality, from a pop-out 1,000-lumen flashlight in the driver’s door to drop-down gear tunnel doors strong enough to stand on. Other useful touches include a 150-psi air compressor, storage under the front seats, and floor mats that can be hosed down.

The synthetic vegan leather seats are heated and ventilated up front with eight-way power, while a 19-speaker Meridian sound system and a heated steering wheel are among the other goodies.

There are no available packages on the R1T.
