2023 Toyota Corolla Cross - Exclusive Ashburn New Car Discounts

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross gains a much-needed infotainment system update, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, and a hybrid model (although full details have not been released).

The Corolla Cross is available in three trims: L, LE, and XLE. Base prices range from $24,395 to $28,500.

A Hybrid model is expected to go on sale in early 2023 and it will additionally be available in the sporty-themed S, SE, and XSE trims but skips the base L trim. Pricing has not yet been released.

The gas-only model features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque that is sent through a continuously-variable transmission to the front wheels. An all-wheel-drive system is offered for $1,300 and reduces the EPA estimates from 32 miles per gallon combined to 30 mpg combined.

While details are sparse, Toyota has officially communicated that the hybrid will generate a combined 194 horsepower and feature a rear axle motor, granting standard all-wheel drive performance. Toyota expects it to return an EPA combined rating of 37 miles per gallon.

The Corolla Cross shares its platform and name with the Corolla, the dimensional differences are notable. It sits 175.6 inches long which makes it about seven inches shorter than the sedan while its 104-inch wheelbase matches the even-shorter Corolla hatchback. Its width of 71.9 inches makes it slightly wider while its 8.1 inches of ground clearance meets the expectations of a modern crossover.

Inside, the Corolla Cross is smaller than the RAV4 (as intended) and backseat passengers are afforded just 32 inches of legroom, 52.4 inches of shoulder room, and 39 inches of headroom. Cargo space is better than either the Corolla sedan or hatchback with 26.5 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat back which expands to 66.8 cubic feet with the seatbacks folded.

The small crossover is rated for towing 1,500 pounds, which is typical for this class.

The Corolla Cross features Toyota’s version 3.0 of its active safety systems package. The base L trim features automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. The SE and LE trims gain blind-spot detection and the XLE and XSE trims receive front and rear parking sensors with parking assist.

IIHS has evaluated the 2022 model and awarded the Corolla Cross with a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award with Superior crash avoidance ratings. NHTSA has not yet rated the crossover.

All trims adopt Toyota’s latest infotainment system and make use of an eight-inch touchscreen with vastly improved graphics. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, remote connectivity, Wi-Fi, and over-the-air update capability are included. The LE trim gains two additional USB charge ports and a wireless charging pad while it and the XLE trim offer an upgraded nine-speaker sound system.

The most basic trim is equipped with 17-inch steel wheels, a molded-in black grille, lower rocker panels, and fender flares, LED projector headlights and brake lights, black heated mirrors, a cloth interior with a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and a 4.2-inch driver information display.

The S trim’s details are slim as it is hybrid-only. It will adopt 18-inch alloy wheels, offer a two-tone paint job (featuring a black painted roof), and wear unique front and rear bumpers and grille designs.

The LE builds off of the L with more equipment such as 17-inch alloy wheels, body-color mirrors with integrated turn signals, black roof rails, variable-speed wipers, and tinted windows. Proximity entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, and sun visors with illumination are also included while the Moonroof Package is offered for ($940) which can be combined with the upgraded sound system for a total of $1,740.

The SE trim builds on the S trim with tinted windows, roof rails, and paddle shifters. More details will be released at a later date.

The XLE trim sees a number of additional features such as 18-inch machine-finished wheels, LED daytime running lights, full tail lights, and fog lights, chrome bumper trim, grille surround, and window trim, synthetic leather seating with heating up front, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster (new for 2023), a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, satin finish interior door handles, dual-zone climate control, and a rear folding armrest. The Convenience Package is offered for $1,250 and includes a sunroof and a power tailgate. Adaptive headlights and the upgraded audio can be further added for a total package cost of $2,665.

The top Corolla Cross trim receives unique 18-inch wheels, extended LED exterior lighting, synthetic leather seats with contrast stitching, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat.
