The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid receives a significant refresh that includes available all-wheel drive, more power, infotainment updates, and new SE and XLE trims. The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driver assistance suite is now standard. Revised front and rear styling resemble the gas hatchback model. The base LE trim is $1,250 cheaper than last year. The current Corolla Hybrid debuted in 2020.
Choosing Your Toyota Corolla Hybrid
The Corolla Hybrid now comes in three trim levels: LE, SE, and XLE. Pricing starts at $23,895 including destination and climbs to $27,695 for the XLE.
Engine Choices
The Corolla Hybrid runs with a 1.8-iter four-cylinder gas engine and a pair of electric motors that together produce 134 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque (versus 121 hp and 146 lb-ft last year). This setup is EPA-rated at 50 miles per gallon city, 43 mpg highway, and 47 combined.
Buyers now have the option of AWD on the Corolla Hybrid. Available on the LE and SE for $1,400, the system includes a separate motor that powers the rear wheels when necessary to maintain traction. With AWD, EPA ratings ease to 47/41/44 (city/highway/combined).
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Corolla Hybrid is a compact sedan with room for five. The trunk holds 13.1 cubic feet, a good amount for this class.
Safety Features
Every Corolla Hybrid comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, road sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking with intersection assist and cyclist detection. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is part of the $1,180 Convenience Package for the LE and the $1,220 Premium Package for the SE. The system is standard on the XLE.
Connectivity
The standard infotainment system for the Corolla Hybrid provides an 8-inch touchscreen, six speakers, four USB ports, HD and satellite radio, cloud-based navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A nine-speak JBL sound system is optional on the SE ($600) and the XLE, where it's bundled with wireless phone charging for $675.

The Corolla Hybrid starts out with cloth seating, push-button start, automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, LED headlights and stoplights, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The $1,180 LE Convenience Package adds proximity keyless access, 16-inch wheels, and blind-spot monitoring. These items are also available in the $2,030 LE Premium Package, along with a sunroof.
2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid SE — MSRP From $26,295
The SE takes on a sportier look with exclusive 18-inch gray wheels and matching lower body trim, a rear spoiler, LED running and accents lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Proximity access and a six-way power driver seat are also standard. The $1,220 SE Premium Package adds a sunroof and blind-spot monitoring.
2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid XLE — MSRP From $27,695
The XLE comes with SofTex synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver seat, and heated front seats. Only the JBL system with wireless charging ($675) remains optional.
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is bound to attract new buyers with its fuller lineup and affordable AWD system. The SE and XLE do add some spice to the line, but not enough to sway us from the bargain-priced LE.
