2022s expected soon
The Volkswagen ID.4 is the brand's newest EV and offers up to 260 miles of range with a versatile SUV design. 2021s have sold out, but the 2022 ID.4 is expected to arrive soon with a $765 price increase.
Offers are slim, to say the least, and although available nationally, will stay this way at least through May 31, 2022. This page is updated monthly with the latest incentives, so be sure to check back for the most current information.
VW ID.4 Lease Deals
No special offers
Time will tell whether the manufacturer will offer lease specials on the upcoming 2022s.
Five months ago, lease rates on a 2021 VW ID.4 PRO Electric SUV started at $379 per month for 36 months with $3,573 due at signing (10,000 miles per year). With an effective monthly cost of $478, we considered this to be an okay value, as it's a lot higher than the effective monthly cost of a 2021 Chevy Bolt EV.
Still, the ID.4 lease does present a good alternative to the Ford Mustang Mach-E. One of the advantages of the ID.4 is that VW has passed along the full value of a $7,500 federal tax credit as lease cash (the Mach-E does not).
VW ID.4 Rebate Deals
$7,500 tax credit + state rebates
A $7,500 federal tax credit is available to those who are eligible. In addition, state incentives like the $2,000 California Clean Vehicle Rebate and $750 Clean Fuel Reward can boost your savings as high as $10,250.
VW ID.4 Finance Deals
No special offers
The manufacturer has yet to announce any finance rates, whether standard or promotional, on the 2022s. It's worth checking with your local dealer to see what they can get you.
Rates for the 2021 ID.4 were previously 2.88% APR for 60 months or 3.63% APR for 72 months and before that, as low as 1.95% APR for 60 months or 2.7% APR for 72 months.

What's New
The Volkswagen ID.4 is an electric crossover that arrived as a brand-new vehicle last year, but desirable changes have already been made. 2022 models will have an improved range over the previous year, Auto-Hold, 135 kW fast charging, and Plug and Charge functionality for more straightforward transactions at charging stations.
Choosing Your Volkswagen ID.4
The Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in two trim levels: the Pro and the Pro S. Base Pro models start at $41,995 and range up to $46,445 for the Pro S. Buyers may also qualify for Federal tax credits of up to $7,500 that can offset the price.
Engine Choices
There are two motor configurations available for the ID.4. All trims are available with a primary electric motor that drives the rear wheels through a single-speed gearbox, which makes 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque.
You can also upgrade to the ID.4 AWD configuration for $3,680, which adds an additional electric motor for the front wheels, allowing for a maximum output of 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque.
The battery pack for both models will have a capacity of 82 kWh. 2022 range is expected to be better than that of the 2021 model year due to some changes by Volkswagen, but the EPA hasn’t provided an official number yet. For reference, the 2021 model year manages between 250 and 260 miles of range for RWD models depending on the trim, and between 240 and 249 miles for AWD models.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Range (Based on MY21) | 0-60 MPH Time (s) |
ID.4 Rear Wheel Drive | 201 hp | 229 lb-ft | 250 – 260+ miles | 7.5 s |
2.4L 4-Cylinder | 295 hp | 339 lb-ft | 240 – 249 miles | 5.4 s |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The ID.4 features enough seating for five people with plenty of leg and headroom for rear passengers. Space behind the rear seat is 30.3 cubic feet, and folding the rear seats can open the cabin up to 64.2 cubic feet of space. There are also a lot of cubbies throughout the cabin and below the trunk floor for additional items.
Of note though, is the lack of a front trunk like many other EVs. Instead, Volkswagen has used the space for the onboard charger and other systems, like the climate control, to increase the interior space of the ID.4.
Safety Features
The ID.4 comes standard with a large suite of advanced safety features called IQ.Drive, which includes lane centering, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and a few semi-autonomous features.
The ID.4 was also awarded a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, and a five-star crash test rating from NHTSA.
Connectivity
The ID.4 is supposed to be futuristic, and its connectivity options support that goal on paper, but they can fall flat in many areas on execution. While both the 10.0-inch touchscreen in Pro models and the 12.0-inch version in Pro S models look great and have a good-looking user interface, they suffer heavily from input lag that can prove frustrating to use.
Additionally, frequently used controls like the climate control and heated seats are hidden in menus that require you to interact with the screen multiple times to turn anything on. These features could be mitigated through the car’s voice controls, but unfortunately, the software doesn’t support natural language like Alexa or Siri, so you have to learn specific phrases to say.
Additionally, buttons have been replaced with capacitive touch surfaces, including on the steering wheel which can result in accidental button selections as you drive if your hand drifts over one of the surfaces.
The ID.4 is capable of over-the-air updates, so it’s possible some of these issues can be rectified through software updates.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro – MSRP From $41,995 (including $1,195 in destination)
The base model ID.4 comes well equipped with the IQ.Drive driver assistance package, cloth seats, a 10.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry with sit-to-start, customizable interior lighting, and LED headlights.
No options are available except for an upgrade to all-wheel drive.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S – MSRP From $46,445
Pro S models receive a lot of additional features, including a panoramic glass roof, a larger 12.0-inch touchscreen, upgraded LED headlights, and an illuminated grille and Volkswagen logo. The Pro S also gets an upgrade to leatherette upholstery, 12-way adjustable front seats with massage functions, a hands-free tailgate, and a variable-level trunk floor.
The $1,500 Gradient package adds 20-inch alloy wheels, a black painted roof, and silver roof rails and trim. It also is available in red, unlike the other models which are limited to a yawn-inducing selection of black, silver, grey, white, and blue.

If you can swing it, you get a lot of extra features that will substantially enhance your driving experience by upgrading to the Pro S model. Those looking for a sportier experience should instead spend the money on upgrading to All-Wheel Drive.
