2023 XC40 stocked to meet demand
The carryover 2023 XC40 remains on sale at dealers across the country. The XC40 is popular with shoppers, so no model stays in stock very long. Dealer discounting is minimal, but factory incentives are available.
The Recharge EV version of the XC40 provides up to 223 miles of range. Recharge buyers can get a $2,000 Clean Vehicle Rebate from the state, but the $750 Clean Fuel Reward is on hold pending funding.
Note that selection may be limited in some areas due to ongoing supply shortages.

Volvo XC40 Lease Deals
Lease from $499/month
The 2023 XC40 in base Core trim now starts at $499 for 36 months (10,000 miles a year) with $3,999 due at signing.
The effective monthly cost works out to $610, which is rather expensive for this price class in our analysis. Keep in mind the XC40 has never been a reliably good lease value. The larger XC60 is sometimes cheaper to lease.
The current offer on the 2023 XC40 Recharge Core is $675 a month with $4,175 due at signing. The effective monthly cost is $791, which provides better value given the Recharge's substantially higher MSRP, but this still isn't a good deal in our book.
Here's some good news: Current Volvo customers are eligible for a $1,500 loyalty bonus toward the lease of any 2023 XC40.

The 2023 Volvo XC40 gas model adopts the front-end styling, trim levels, and built-in Google apps already used by the all-electric Recharge variant. Recharge interiors are now leather-free. The XC40 arrived in 2018 as an all-new model.
Choosing Your Volvo XC40
The gas XC40 comes in three trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultimate. Pricing starts at $37,645 including destination and climbs to $45,705 for the Ultimate.
The electric Recharge is available in the same trims, priced from $54,645 to $60,595.
Engine Choices
The XC40 starts out with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. For $2,000 on any trim, buyers can upgrade to a high-output turbo and all-wheel drive. With either setup, the XC40 uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and can tow up to 3,500 pounds. Both engines feature mild hybrid assist.
The Recharge carries a pair of electric motors accompanied by a single-speed transmission and standard AWD. The powertrain offers up to 223 miles of range. Towing capacity dips to 2,000 pounds.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The XC40 is a compact crossover that seats five without complaint. The cargo area measures 20.7 cubic feet and expands to 57.5 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. Unlike many other EVs, the Recharge offers just as much cargo space as its gas counterpart.
Safety Features
Every XC40 comes equipped with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams assist, rear parking sensors, road sign recognition, and automatic wipers.
The Plus adds side and front parking sensors — and can be equipped with a $1,800 Driver Assist Package with adaptive cruise control and surround-view cameras. These features are standard on the Recharge Plus.
The Ultimate receives adaptive cruise control with steering assist.
Connectivity
The XC40's infotainment system includes a 9-inch touchscreen, eight speakers, four USB ports, HD and satellite radio, Google apps (including navigation), and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
A 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is exclusive to the Ultimate.
2023 Volvo XC40 Core – MSRP From $37,645 (Recharge $54,645)
The Core carries a leatherette interior with heated front seats, a 12-way power driver seat with memory, and aluminum trim. Other equipment includes power-folding side mirrors, aluminum roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch on Recharge). Genuine leather seats are available on the gas model, along with driftwood trim and an Orrefors crystal shift knob for $1,100.
The $800 Convenience Package adds a power passenger seat, a universal home remote, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a hands-free liftgate. This is bundle is standard on the Recharge. The Climate Package ($550) furnishes heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. The package costs $1,100 on the Recharge because it includes headlight washers and a range-preserving heat pump.
2023 Volvo XC40 Plus – MSPR From $42,045 (Recharge $57,345)
The Plus picks up a panoramic sunroof, fog lights, and aluminum window surrounds. The gas model also gains the Convenience Package and the upgraded leather interior as standard. The Recharge Plus comes with sueded cloth seats. The Driver Assist Package is standard on the Recharge but remains optional on gas versions.
2023 Volvo XC40 Ultimate – MSPR From $45,705 (Recharge $60,595)
The Ultimate wears unique trim throughout such as 3D aluminum interior appliques, a sculpted gear shift, gloss black exterior trim, and unique 19-inch wheels (20-inch for Recharge). The option packages offered on the other trims are standard on Ultimate.
