January 27, 2012

A free Carfax report helps customers because it prevents them from buying a lemon. Carfax has records on almost all cars in the US and Canada regarding their accidents, their mileage, their problems and so on. You can easily get a free car report by following a few steps.

Step 1 - Ask Dealer

You can get your own Carfax report from your used car dealership. A lot of used car dealerships are registered with Carfax so they can show the car's problems to the customers. You can know which dealerships are registered with Carfax by going to either the dealership's website or on Carfax's website. If you go to a used car dealership and they don't have a Carfax report on the car you like, it means the dealer who originally sold the car when it was new did not register with Carfax.

Step 2 - Go to Website

If the dealer is not registered with Carfax you will need to go to the website yourself. Carfax gets all the car's information through multiple government associations, and because of that Carfax has a huge inventory on almost all cars in the US or in Canada. You can get your own Carfax report by giving them the car's VIN number.

Step 3 - Ask Owner

If you're buying a used car and they are don't supply you with a Carfax report, contact the previous owner of the car. They may be willing to talk with you about the vehicle and offer to get the report for you.
