The Best Cars for Photography: Autos for Taking Pictures

January 27, 2012

If you're an amateur or professional photographer and want to buy a new car, you might be interested in finding the best cars for photography. Driving the right vehicle can help you get that quick and unexpected shot that you might not otherwise have been able to take.

Convertibles: The Obvious Choice

When you think of the best vehicle for a photographer, the obvious choice would be almost any type of convertible. While a vehicle with a sun roof is good, a convertible gives the picture taker a clear view and 360-degree shooting angle. If you need to be able to quickly catch up with moving objects, you might consider something like a convertible Corvette.

On the other hand, if you want something a little more nostalgic or a car that has a little more character, you might consider a classic like an old Alfa Romeo or Triumph. As long as you choose a convertible, you will always have clear and unobstructed shots.

Other Acceptable Vehicles

Although convertibles are usually the best choice for a photographer, they are not always practical for use in all areas. For example, if you live in a particularly cold area, buying a convertible is probably not a very good idea. You'll need to look for acceptable alternatives.

Some SUVs make excellent choices for photographers. When shopping for a photography friendly SUV, make sure the vehicle has a sunroof that retracts all the way as well as clear glass all around the vehicle. Avoid SUVs with particularly dark tint or side panels that are covered. Choosing an SUV with a lot of window glass coverage will also help you get shots that other vehicles may prevent you from taking.
