How to Get a Gap Insurance Refund after Selling Your Car?

March 18, 2013

About the only way to assure you can get a gap insurance refund is if you make your car payments on time for the first two months of your car purchase, and if you then request the refund within 60 days of the purchase date. In general, if you have had gap insurance for a while and you sell your car, there is no way you can receive a gap insurance refund, as the insurance terminates with the sale of the vehicle. If you make the request for a gap refund within the 60-day limit and you are planning on selling your car, your first move should be the refund request and then the sale. Gap insurance is not transferable.
